Akira Fukuzawa, a celebrity widely regarded as the "face of NTV," has announced he will resign from the private broadcaster effective from June 30,.

Fukuzawa, 41, plans to go freelance, but is expected to remain at the helm of the seven NTV programs in which he is currently the regular emcee.

Fukuzawa joined NTV in 1988. He gained his first emceeing role four years later with "Kokosei Quiz," and gained widespread popularity with his catchcall of "Fire!"

He is currently appearing on such shows as "Shinso Hodo Bankisha" and "Enta no Kamisama."
