Hiya All!

I was trying to find some threads on mangas but alas there's only about two of them and seems like most of the readers are shounen readers...

So I wanted to start a thread for the shoujo readers...

What have you read and what would you recommend and why? Though they're so bad for me... sucks up my time reading them all, I'm always looking for new titles to read... only problem is that there's sooo many titles out there, I don't know which to start reading... any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm currently reading:

Hot Gimmick
Skip Beat!
Parfait Tic
Perfect Girl Evolution
Your and My Secret (it's a bit weird though... the concept that is)
Zettai Kareshi

I'm always up for discussing these and any thing else I've read!

-shoujo fan!

Oh, I love Parfait Tic and Zettai Kareshi! I think I always read a bit of Hot Gimmick as well. But anyways, I just love Yuu Watase's work . . . except for that recent one, Alice 19th. For some reason, it seemed a bit too "girl turn superpower girl" to me.

Zettai Kareshi is pretty good, I find it interesting. I did like Soushi but now I've switched to Night (sooooo kawaii)

Anyone ever get the feeling that Night is somehow a manifestation of Soushi??? At least that's how I felt until the new guy showed up... Now I'm not so sure what direction Watase Yuu is heading towards...

At first, I really thought that the hero of the story would be Soushi somehow, but now it seems like he's been written out of the plot?? I am actually rooting for Soushi, Night seems tooooo perfect for me.

But as far as soap opera-ish... i would say Parfait Tic is the winner... though that's what makes it addicting... :)

Anyone have any recommedations for other series? (I'm going on vacation soon... so I will have access to more manga without having to pay S&H fees... so I want to load up on my way home)

Hm.....
Onegai Twins have that kind of romantic drama, but it isnt like Sailormoon that there are some action...Hm....

Watch Ranma, it's kind of like Sailormoon, the main characters are "meant to be" and they fight some enemies, they get problems that they need to solve and stuff....and the anime can be funny sometimes...

A lot of animes that were mentioned here don't come anywhere close to Sailormoon, lol! (Gundam SEED, Trigun?! o_O)
Think you're looking for something like Card Captor Sakura =)

Well, there's this anime called Wedding Peach that really reminded me of Sailor Moon. The show was notable for its similarity to the Sailor Moon concept in that a trio of young gals, Momoko, Hinagiku, and Yuri, donned costumes and fought evil beings intent on stamping out love and caring. ^_^

Momoko would use a magic ring and become Wedding Peach, a girl in a bridal outfit, complete with a bouquet that shot powerful energy blasts, and her two friend would become Angel Lily and Angel Daisy, both in bridesmaids outfits with their own unique abilities. Apparently, they, like the Sailor Moon crew, were reborn heroines that were destines to fight battles for Aphrodite (the Goddess of Love) against her arch nemesis, Raindevila, leader of a dark dimension. Aphrodite’s second in command was a longhaired blonde guy, Limone, and Raindevila’s initial choice of evil agents was Lord Pluie. Pluie would often send little demons like Jama-P to take over the bodies of unsuspecting citizens and turn them against the heroines, who usually felt obligated to change them back without hurting them. As the series progressed, he was replaced with even more evil demons, all of whom reported directly to Raindevila.

Sounds like the same basic concept, so if you liked Sailor Moon, then this would probably be worth having a look at. ^_^

i think model is really weird (dats the one with the vampire right?), the story is interesting but puts me off at the same time. - i've only read a volume and a half, - what do you think about it?

your and my secret is different from his and her circumstances. your and my secret is by ai morinaga, and his and her circumstances is by masami tsuda.

and model is the one with the vampires. i agree it's weird, but i still think it's pretty interesting.

i've read up to book 5 of model and i think it gets better as it continues

oh, and about your and my secret, it's kinda perverted, but really funny

Zettai Kareshi is good but ends too abruptly. I own the entire series.

I have Imadoki as well (whole set) and I find that one really boring.

Yuu Watase's mangas get repetitive.

Parfait Tic is great! I have volume 1-13, getting 14 in the mail next week.

your and my secret is silly but fun. (I have 2 volumes)

Model (korean manga) is ok. I have 1-6 and it's not the greatest.

Kare Kano is good, and so is Hana Kimi. Both very long series 20+. I have both Hana Kimi whole set and Kare Kano 1-20.

Hot Gimmick I have 1-9 and I must say it's an annoying read

Perfect Girl Revolution has nice art and concept. But I find the story boring as well. I don't like this one much. I have up to volume 9 or 10? I don't remember =P

You guys should read Beauty is Beast (it's coming out with viz late this year). I have 1-4 and 5 is the last one.

I really hate Shinjo Mayu but I think you guys would like her stuff a lot too because you guys like all the other ones just like it. Try to look for her. (I'm a picky manga reader).

I absolutely love it! I haven't read the manga yet but I've seen the anime! The characters are so funny! I'm gonna buy the manga when I get some money!

Some Shoujo mangas frustrate me so much... because a couple always gets together and a lot of bad things happen to break them up! I can put up with all of them though except for Peach Girl. I can't stand it. I've never read the manga but I've seen the anime. I watched until the 10th episode and just dropped it all together.

Anyways... I'm currently reading:

- Hot Gimmick
- Kare Kano
- Sakuragaoka Angels
- Good Morning Call
- Tsubasa

My fav Mangakas are Yoshizumi Wataru (creator of Marmalade Boy) and Takasuka Yue(creator of Good Morning Call) They make the cutest stories ^-^

I like:

Love monster-that is about a girl who gets enrolled in a school that is actually a monster school (with handsome monsters XD) She meets Kouro who tells her that he is her fiance, Kouro is a crow monster, in the monster world crows are the highest creatures, she meets there other monsters who are trying to get her.Kouro is kinda perverted but later she seems to be falling in love with him.

yoru made matenai-A girl named Haruka who has a father that remarried, the woman he had married had a son 2 years younger than Haruka, Haruka is happy that she has a little brother and Tsukasa her little brother is happy too, but a little to happy, he is perverted and things up ways to kiss haruka or more...

I feel actually lazy, so I stop it with 2 mangas ok

I really like Hanakimi because it's such a funny manga and the guys are hawt. :D Hana Yori Dango is just such a nontypical girl's manga and it's just beyond words. Parfait Tic is just so great! so angsty but in a good way. Perfect Girl Evolution is my favorite so far because it's absolutely hilarous and omg, the guys are totally cute! actually, i wasn't even interested at first but then my friend recommended it to me because she said i was similar to the main character. o_O

yea. i'd have to agree with you. im reading many of the ones u are too. like....red river. which is really kool but more to the feminine power kinda thing. n then w juliet...omg i love that bk. it's one of the best n most hilarious ones ive read. n snow drop n INVU are also great ones. shoujo mangas are the best kind. n yea...of course ppl would like that stuff to happen in the real life but hey, if it werent fantasy it wouldnt be in the books. yuu watase is a great manga artist i have to say. her pictures rock, but then again...some of her storylines arent the best. not to disrespect her because i still love her works so she should def keep on drawing n stuff. i would def recommend wild act and happy hustle high. they're really good and pretty funny as well. they're both by the same author...rie takada. so if ya get a chance, you should read em. i would say, if your having a bad day, pick up a manga n cheer urself up. tis a great way. it works for me ^^

I love all of 'Hana to Yume' comics and Tanemura Arina's manga! They are just so cute and adorable. Oh yea, I think Penguin Brothers is considered shoujo, I recommend it to people who haven't read it, it's really good! And try out some old mangas they are really good and original, like Glass Mask, which is still running after a very, very long time!

Yea, I sometimes buy the manga if it is really good! But most of the time I download them.

I really agree :) I wish I could borrow them from the library! I wouldn't mind if my bf was more like a manga bf...*dreamy sigh*

I just read a really good shoujo manga! It's "Watashi no...Megane-kun" By Amu Sumoto. It was really a quite a romance! I liked the art, too. I kept on thinking that all sorts of different things would happen...because the mangaka makes you think that he's going to do ...something...because of his personality!

Link to cover of Drama CD, so you can see the art.

Right now I'm reading "Tokiiro Sankaku" by Natsumi Itsuki. I got it because I loved "Hanasakeru Seishounen" :) So far Tokiiro is okay, then it got better...it's basically a story about the lives of three people (2 teenage boys and an elementary school girl) who are orphans...and find out they are related to each other because they all have.... :) I can't tell because it'd spoil the storyline :)

Have you heard of "Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari"? I just found out about it last week and got my hands on it yesterday. It started as a novel...but sent to people via text messages! It was an amazing hit in Japan, so they made it a normal book-novel, a manga, a TV show and a movie! I can't wait to read it :)

I liked Red River (Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori), Wallflower (Yamatonadeshiko Shichihengei), and Parfait-chic, too :) Love Monster is one of my favorites :) So is Guru Guru Ponchan :) If you like animals you should try "Bond" by Yoshio Azuma. It's like a shounen comic, but the contents are totally comic-shoujo. I picked it up by accident and it's one of my favorites now :)

Ah! I really love shoujo manga and it's so nice to be able to talk about them! I hope there's more shoujo manga threads in here! That would be cool!

I really enjoy reading shoujo mangas also. I think that they are the best genre there is because of the deep story, romance, and character development. I pretty much recommend all of Watase Yuu's work because it is that good. Her works include: Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, Imadoki, Alice 19th, Zettai Kareshi, and more. I also really recommend reading Hana Kimi. It is really good and is one of my favorite mangas.

Sailor Moon is possibly the best known shoujo anime in the world. Spawned from the hugely popular manga by Naoko Takeuchi, it runs for an impressive length of 200 episodes, 4 specials, and 3 movies... plus countless games, soundtracks and other goodies as well, and has been televised in a myriad of countries around the globe.

Sailor Moon is based around the story of Usagi Tsukino (Serena in english), your average ditzy anime schoolgirl. She discovers she is a the reincarnation of a princess from an ancient moon civilisation, and must now defend the earth from evil attacks, along with her allies the sailor senshi. This is one of my old favourites; a very enjoyable series to watch, particularly for fans of the shoujo genre. While the english dub is more than appropriate for all ages, the original japanese version was aimed at an older teenage audience, and may have some inappropriate themes for younger viewers.

Emma (Manga) - The plot for this one isn't too original but it is still a fun read.

Fruits Basket (Anime and Manga) - One of the best shoujo out there, very complex story, very interesting characters and very emotional at times.

Hanakimi (Manga) - Great, but kinda drags toward the end.

Karekano (Anime and Manga) - Slowly lost interest in the manga when they focused too much on Arima.

Marmalade Boy (Manga) - Very good, but wasn't too original.

Mars (Manga) - Haven't finished reading this yet, but from what I have read it is very absorbing.

How do u categorized those manga and anime into shoujo?

Shoujo are usually more of a romance type of genre that are mainly read by girls hence the name shoujo. Romance type anime/manga that is ecchi like ichigo 100% are considered shounen because the perverseness of it are aimed at the male audience. I personally like the romance genre itself so theres a mix of shounen in what I read.

My favourite is defenitely Hana Kimi! It's really funny and the drawings are great.

Other shoujo mangas that I like is:

Hana Yori Dango
Fruits Basket (although I haven't read all of them)
Akumo de Soro

I've read other shoujo mangas too, but these are my favourites. Maybe I like those with a long storyline so the fun will last longer. But the main factors too why I like these are a good sense of humour and a good romance story. The male character isn't very good at expressing their emotions which lead to alot of funny situations and dialogs

Shoujo mangas are really great. Actually, I'm looking for some new ones too, if anyone would like to suggest some to me. My rule is art first then plot. No matter how good the plot is, if the art's not good enough, then I wouldn't read it.

Shoujo mangas that I enjoyed in the past:

Full Moon wo Sagashite: Good art (as it always is with Tanemura-sensei) and cute plot. I love the characters too. Oh and there's a plot twist in the middle of it. ^__^

Imadoki: The art is good, as expected of Watase-sensei. But the plot is very cliche. Good thing the comedy makes up for it.

Kare Kano: This one was VERY funny in the beginning, then a little draggish in the middle, then very dark in the end. The plot seemed a little cliche in the beginning, but I was proved wrong as the series went on. I love the art. I'm so glad that the ending finally came out because it was such a long series.

Fruits Basket: Very original plot. I liked the art in the beginning, but now the art changed so much that I barely recognize it. The plot is getting darker and darker, unlike the beginning, where I was rolling on the floor with the humor. I can't wait for the ending.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles: Who thought that a little more romance between Sakura and Syaoran was needed in Card Captors? I DID!! So, it would be an understatement to say that I was IN LOVE with Tsubasa when it came out. Plot is a tiny bit cliche, with the memory loss and what not, but the originality of the different worlds surely made up for it. And I love all the characters in it, not to mention the ART! Basically, this is a MUST read.

Wallflower (Perfect Girl Evolution): There is two words that come to mind when I think of this manga: Random Humor. If you're looking for deep plot, it's definitely not for you. But if you want some time to relax and wind down, read this manga. The art, in my opinion, is alright.

Ultra Maniac: Short, cute and sweet. I love the art, plot and the characters. I also like the fact that it's really short.

Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne: At first, I didn't like the idea of reading about another heroine trying to save the world, but I decided to stick around because of the art and the characters. Then the plot twist in the middle kept me hooked, so I just ended up reading the whole series. But I liked it, so I guess that's all that matters.

Time Stranger Kyoko: Short, and good art. I liked the chracters more than the plot. And I liked the art more than the characters. I think I wouldn't have stuck around if the story was draggy.

Zettai Kareshi: My latest shoujo manga. The plot was cliche, but the art was good. And the comedy was good too. Umm...I don't think I would have stuck around for this one either, if the plot was any longer.

Fushigi Yugi: I watched the anime, but did not read the manga, which says something. I liked the art, but the plot was so draggy and the female characters were so annoying that I had to skip the middle of the series and just watch the ending (which I found out that it wasn't the ending for the manga). But I wasn't willing to read the ending, because I just can't put up with the whiny female characters.

Aishiteruze Baby: This one was really cute. Loved the art. Yuzuyu is just so adorable and lovable. I thought the plot was original because I never read a manga based on parenthood before. But maybe that's just me.

That's all for me. Suggest me any mangas that you would think I'd like. I also like Full Metal Alchemist, Detective Conan, and Rurouni Kenshin if that helps.

There are too many good shoujo mangas out there too mention them all, but I personally think that Hana Kimi is the best! The plot is so funny! :)
Shoujo manga with good humour are the best :)
If anyone has any suggestion of good manga (and where I can download them) I would be very grateful.

My favourite Shoujo manga list (So far):

Hanazakari no Kimitachi E (For you in full blossom)
Akumo de Soro
Itazura na Kiss
Hana Yori Dango
Hot Gimmick
Good morning call
Fruits Basket

I've read Zettai Kareshi and I thought the manga was good, although it's not one of my favourites. But Night was great! Wish I had a boyfriend like him...

Best shoujo manga: I will have to say by far it's Fruits Basket but Ouran Host Club gets a pretty close second as well as Othello

Best shoujo anime: I will have to say Revolutionary Girl Utena (it's one of my fave anime series) - it has beautiful animation, cryptic messages, fighting, and lots of flowers.

You should watch Fushigi Yuugi, it's very romantic and sweet the scenes with tamahome and miaka. But it's a little different from sailormoon, this movie has alot of twist to it, and sailormoon basically during the end of each episode you can guess what is going to happen, it's different in fushigi yuugi.
