Bo-Lin boleh!
Peter Yap
CHEN Bo-Lin was discovered by director Yee Chih Yen in front of an ice-cream parlour in Taipei two years ago.
Yee later cast him as the male lead in his movie, Blue Gate Crossing, about a swimmer who falls for a girl confused about her sexual orientation.
Chen won rave reviews for his role in the critically-acclaimed movie.
Since then, the up-and-coming actor has starred in two Taiwanese idol drama series, Sonic Youth and Mayday's Romance, and two Japanese movies, First Love, Last Love and About Love, which comprises three short stories.
His good looks, talent and down-to-earth personality have even caught the eye of movie producers from Hongkong, the Hollywood of the East.
Earlier this year, he signed a three-movie deal with Emperor Motion Picture, a subsidiary of Emperor Entertainment Group.
The 20-year-old can currently be seen in Twins Effect 2, playing the supporting role of adopted brother to Jaycee Chan's character.
Chen has already completed his second Hongkong movie, Bugs Don't Know, and is currently working on his third project, The Eye 10 in Bangkok. (This movie doesn't have The Eye star, award-winning Malaysian actress Angelica Lee.)
"I hope to take a short break after that," says Chen during an interview in Kuala Lumpur recently. "I have been working non-stop since last year. I want to go on a long holiday next month. I deserve it."
You're sporting a goatee. Is that the real you?
I'm considered neat today. If I don't have to work or meet the press, I don't shave at all. (Chen also has long hair. He's certainly eye-catching.)
You've acted in an idol drama series as well. Do you prefer to act in dramas or movies?
I made my debut in the movie, Blue Gate Crossing. I can do both, but I prefer to focus on movies.
How are you coping with your busy schedule?
I'm doing okay. I just have to cope with the workload.
What was the most unforgettable part about working on Twins Effect 2?
Yunnan in China is just so beautiful. I also treasure my friendship with Jaycee and Gilllian Chung and Charlene Choi of Twins. We are now good friends.
How do you relax?
I try to catch up on my sleep. I also like hanging out with my friends. I like to draw as well.
Do you plan to release an album?
I am serious about my music. I hope to release an album in due time. (Chen plays the guitar and jams with his own band whenever he has the time to spare.)
