His english name is Wilson?! Hahaa.. A bit weird when I first heard it! :D
Anyway, he is such a good looking guy! Often reminds me of Takeshi..
I love his eyes though.

I read from a website of his that he doesn't have an english name, and that we should just call him bo lin, but I am not sure if that is true, its just something that I read from one of his website.

He's also in Blue Gate Crossing, and 20:30:40, both Taiwan movies (in Blue Gate Crossing, he's one of the main characters -- a guy caught in a love triangle)... I'm pretty sure I've seen him in one other place recently, but I can't remember where.

After a decade of Hong Kong & Japan pretty boys...
Taiwan pin-up idols are back

By Chang May Choon

IT was his striking resemblance to Takeshi Kaneshiro that first got him noticed two years ago.

One Taiwanese drama and four movies - including a Jackie Chan blockbuster - later, Chen Po-lin is arguably the next big thing from Taiwan to hit Asia.

At the tender age of 21, the bushy-browed good-looker already boasts a string of achievements in showbiz.

Besides starring in Jackie's crowd-pleaser The Twins Effect II and Sylvia Chang's romantic film, 20 30 40, he also completed his first Japanese film, About Love, which co-stars cutie-pie Vivian Hsu and Shiseido babe Misaki Ito.

Even acclaimed Japanese director Shunji Iwai (Love Letter) has expressed interest in working with him.

Freelance entertainment writer Darrien Choong, 28, also thinks highly of Po-lin.

He said: 'He has shown a lot of potential in acting, and his image is very versatile. He can be androgynous, hip-hop or sporty.'

Po-lin, who made a sterling debut in the award-winning Taiwanese film, Blue Gate Crossing, represents a new generation of Taiwanese leading men - not seen since his lookalike, Takeshi, and others like Nicky Wu and Alec Su sent girls into screaming fits in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Indeed, for the last decade, Taiwan seemed to have suffered a dearth of poster-boys as stylish Japanese dramas with no shortage of fashionable, pretty boys took Asia by storm.

Taiwan is known more for its Qiong Yao period weepies than hip idol dramas, not to mention slick, gorgeous movies. So it could only stand by and watch as its girls looked to Hong Kong and Japan for idol material.

Blue Gate Crossing

Posted Image

Year: 2002
Director: Yee Chin-Yen
Producer: Peggy Chiao, Hsu Hsiao-Ming
Writer: Yee Chin-Yen
Cast: Wilson Chen Bo-Lin, Guey Lun-Mei, Liang Shu-Hui, Joanna Chou
The Skinny: Though the ground it covers is nothing new, Blue Gate Crossing is an artfully-told film that takes potential narrative pitfalls and weaves cinematic gold. Director Yee Chin-Yen creates an unobtrusive, quirky, and yet subtly moving coming-of-age story.
Review
by Kozo: Meng Kerou (Guey Lun-Mei) is a seemingly average Taiwan teen who hangs out almost exclusively with pal Lin Yuezhen (Liang Shu-Hui). Their lives are filled with the usual stuff: their high school lives and boys, though the latter seems to be primarily Yuezhen's domain. Yuezhen holds a severe torch for Zhang Shihao (Wilson Chen Bo-Lin), a seventeen year-old swim team member who she simply cannot approach. Though it's rather silly, Yuezhen is simply too shy and immature to openly talk to Shihao, so she uses Kerou as an intermediary. Shihao ends up thinking that it's Kerou who has a thing for him, and not Yuezhen, who he writes off as being a fictional creation on Kerou's part. Yuezhen makes matters worse by signing a love letter in Kerou's name, and Kerou ultimately gets fed up enough to hold off on convincing Shihao of the truth. When Shihao starts to show true interest in Kerou, this can only lead to trouble.
The expected and logical plotline of Blue Gate Crossing could be this: girl and guy fall for one another, but since the girl's friend secretly likes the guy, the girl is afraid to fulfill her desire. Right? Wrong. Though the plot of Blue Gate Crossing sounds suspiciously like your average John Hughes film, writer-director Yee Chin-Yen eschews commercial obviousness for a simpler storyline and complex, recognizable characters. Kerou's problems do involve the "my friend likes the guy" issue, and a love triangle does form between the three teens, but Kerou's target may not be Shihao. Societal norms dictate who Kerou is and exactly who she's supposed to like, but if she goes against that, what exactly does it mean?
Murky descriptions aside, many other films have contained similiar stories of sexual awakening, but Yee Chin-Yen manages to find some refreshing, innocently charming ground on which to set his drama. The kids are perhaps a bit behind the times (you wouldn't see the teens in Larry Clark's Kids acting so unrealistically naive), and nothing really groundbreaking ever occurs. Still, the direction is appreciably hands-off and engagingly matter-of-fact. Events unfold in generous long takes, with camera setups accurately depicting moments of intimacy and distance, and dialogue that's spare and very realistic in its obtuse repetition. Characters reveal themselves through action more than dialogue, and though much of what goes on is opaque, the actors are able to convey myraid layers of emotions. The teens are deglamorized and realistically portrayed, and their inner turmoil never overdone. Yee Chin-Yen could have made this an over-the-top emotion fest, but his direction is stylish and artful without being obvious.
If Blue Gate Crossing has any true weakness, it would perhaps be that it's a little too sweet and innocently played. The high school world of these teens lacks any sordid realism, and though some of the situations might merit more serious emotional damage, that never seens to be a danger here. At the same time, the growth and change the characters experience can be subtly compelling. This is especially true in the case of Zhang Shihao, whose quiet maturation from boy to man makes him an exceptionally likable character. Conversely, Lin Yuezhen seems to be on the slow track to growing up, and her character's wide-eyed denial of reality makes her a less likable, though frightfully real character. Meng Kerou is an even bigger narrative bomb, as her personal issues have been the curse of many a "sensitive" film about sexuality. A certain tension is created by Kerou's sexual confusion, and the result might feel like a cop-out to some, or a poetic compromise to others. Its easy to say that Blue Gate Crossing falls short of true significance because it becomes more slice-of-life than definitively-telling, but that might be being too critical. Regardless of what it truly accomplishes, Blue Gate Crossing is an astoundingly lovely little film. (Kozo 2004)

Ok! I saw Chen Po Ling play the part of Blockhead in the moive "The Twins Effect 2". When you listen closely, you can tell that he pronounces most of the Cantonese incorrectly so it makes it hard for me to understand what he is saying half the time.

Bo-Lin boleh!
Peter Yap

CHEN Bo-Lin was discovered by director Yee Chih Yen in front of an ice-cream parlour in Taipei two years ago.

Yee later cast him as the male lead in his movie, Blue Gate Crossing, about a swimmer who falls for a girl confused about her sexual orientation.

Chen won rave reviews for his role in the critically-acclaimed movie.

Since then, the up-and-coming actor has starred in two Taiwanese idol drama series, Sonic Youth and Mayday's Romance, and two Japanese movies, First Love, Last Love and About Love, which comprises three short stories.

His good looks, talent and down-to-earth personality have even caught the eye of movie producers from Hongkong, the Hollywood of the East.

Earlier this year, he signed a three-movie deal with Emperor Motion Picture, a subsidiary of Emperor Entertainment Group.

The 20-year-old can currently be seen in Twins Effect 2, playing the supporting role of adopted brother to Jaycee Chan's character.

Chen has already completed his second Hongkong movie, Bugs Don't Know, and is currently working on his third project, The Eye 10 in Bangkok. (This movie doesn't have The Eye star, award-winning Malaysian actress Angelica Lee.)

"I hope to take a short break after that," says Chen during an interview in Kuala Lumpur recently. "I have been working non-stop since last year. I want to go on a long holiday next month. I deserve it."

You're sporting a goatee. Is that the real you?
I'm considered neat today. If I don't have to work or meet the press, I don't shave at all. (Chen also has long hair. He's certainly eye-catching.)

You've acted in an idol drama series as well. Do you prefer to act in dramas or movies?
I made my debut in the movie, Blue Gate Crossing. I can do both, but I prefer to focus on movies.

How are you coping with your busy schedule?
I'm doing okay. I just have to cope with the workload.

What was the most unforgettable part about working on Twins Effect 2?
Yunnan in China is just so beautiful. I also treasure my friendship with Jaycee and Gilllian Chung and Charlene Choi of Twins. We are now good friends.

How do you relax?
I try to catch up on my sleep. I also like hanging out with my friends. I like to draw as well.

Do you plan to release an album?
I am serious about my music. I hope to release an album in due time. (Chen plays the guitar and jams with his own band whenever he has the time to spare.)

He made a short series called 'Sonic Youth', and he plays this rich guy whose dad embezzled some money or something and runs off to another country with his secretary so Wilson becomes relli poor and hav to live with his housekeeper's family. It's pretty interesting but it has a very unsatistfying ending.

I remembered Bo Lin giving out the prizes on Golden Horse Award. Before that he and a Japanese girl were to say a few words first. As they have a little language barrier, the whole ambience seemed very odd.. I really hoped that someone will be there to help them.
