:duh Sorry to disappoint you but the cast you want to play in the manhwa turned series GOONG is ... well, they weren't chosen for the part. :noclue

Now (drum roll please!) I introduce you to THE REAL CAST!

Posted Image

CG: Yoon Eun Hye :wasntme
Shin: Joo Ji Hoon :iloveyou:
Hyo Rin: Song Ji Hyo :whistle
Yul: Kim Jung Hoon :tricky:

BEGINNING OF THE FILMING: End of Septermber 2005
BROADCASTING: Jan 16, 2006

TITLE: GOONG [Palace]
MANHWAGA: So Hee Park
GENRE: Romance/ Comedy/ Drama
STATUS: Ongoing (so far: 9 volumes)
SUMMARY: If the prince of Korea suddenly transfered to your school and you overheard him proposing to another girl, how would you react being told you have to marry him?

Posted Image

'I have confidence in silencing the criticism from fans.', Producer Hwang In Roe said.

'Netizens (citizens on the net) and some manhwa fans will criticize me, but I want to say
this: I'm confident in silencing some criticism about Goong's cast and their ability to
make a good series.', Producer Hwang said calmly.

On the 20th, the day after they announced the casting, he said, 'I know the people who
criticize the casting are fervent lovers of 'Goong'. The casting is ultimately decided by
the director.'

'Yoon Eun Hye [BABY VOX] originally auditioned for another role in Goong [not CG], but after
watching her audition, I decided to choose her as CG.'

'My producer colleagues showed a lot of concern for me, saying there's never been a case
in which new actors were chosen for main characters.', but I'm confident because we
studied Goong thoroughly. We can practice and get ready for it before shooting.'

Lastly, he [the producer] says to people who are against Goong casting, 'Please decide
after you watch the drama.'

Quote

(by KSWglomper) Does anyone know anything about this series or what's going on with it so far? It's based on a popular manwha series by So Hee-Park. It's [supposedly] starring Moon Geun-Young, Jo In-Sung, and Kang Dong-Won. I really wanna know . . . :crying: (Full House was one such series but quite different from the manwha)

:yeah GOONG [Palace] :yeah

I'm wating expectantly for this series. I hope they stay true to the manwha. I do understand they they do have to change somethings when they change media, but I hope they keep the spirit of the story intact :)

i'm really hoping this drama will turn out good. because the comic was really good. this is suppose to be modern but with king, queen and royal family still in korea. this is suppose to be really funny. because the comic was really hilarious!

Yes excatly as shorty-gal just said it's set in an alternate reality where in modern day Korea there's still a running royal family. And of course it's romantic and funny and all that good stuff. I think I'm actually going to go read up on some of the manwha - I haven't read any in a while and I'm sure I'm way behind!

I've read some of the manwha and I'm so excited about this series. I thought the story and the characters were wonderful and I can't wait to see a live drama interpretation. :)

I'm okay with LDG as the male lead, but I'm not so sure about Eun-Hye....I've never seen her act before, so I'm kind of skeptical about her acting....I think Kang Dong Wan should've been cast as the male lead tho...He fits the character so well...

cast (most likely):
boa
jo in sung
moon geun yeong
kang dong won

note:
was supposed to air early 2005, however, due to production difficulty, this drama was put on indefinite delay;
based on a very popular current manhwa
the story is unrealistic..in the sense that like Japan korea is supposed to have the royal court not a predisent ....the beginning is that they go to the same school and later find out that they are arranged to be married by the guys father and the girls grandfather made promise..for the guys dad was a student under the grandfather and really admired him and wanted him as part of the family.well i only read vol 1..and that's all i got out of it so far...well..hope this give an idea of the show

Here's the latest news on the cast of Goong that I got from soompi forums.

9/13/05 – Song Ji Hyo will costar with Yoon Eun Hye, Joo Ji Hoon, and Kim Jung Hoon in the drama “Palace” scheduled to be aired by MBC in January of 2006. She plays the role Hyo Rin who is the rival of prince Shin played by Joo Ji Hoon and princess Chae Kyung played by Yoon Eun Hye. SJH’s previous project was the movie “Wishing Stairs”.

The drama portrays the 17-year-old prince Shin accidentally marries Chae Kyung who then becomes the princess and undergos the agony of competing for the throne. The supporting cast includes Kim Hye Ja as the queen, Kang Nam Gil as Chae Kyung’s father, Song Seung Hwan as the emperor, and Yoon Yoo Sun as the empress.

p/s: oh well, let's just hope this series will be as entertaining and as good as the manhwa ^^

Are all K-dramas' like mini-series. It only runs for one year, or do they have series in Korea? Do you guys have muti-channel Cable TV like in the States.?

i'm pretty happy with the other two casts ... chae gyung and yul ... i love yoon eun hye so i don't mind her being chae gyung and kim jung hoon will make such a hotie yul... he's such a cutie ... i don't really care about the other girl and the guy who play shin .... since i don't think Joo Ji Hoon will make a good shin... in the picture he seems so out of place ... he kind of look a lil' bit older as prince ... he look so much like shin's dad :lol?: ... he's supposed to be dead gorgeous but it seems the guy who play yul is cuter and hotter than him ... but i dunno i only saw a few pictures of 'em ... maybe once the guy who'll play shin get a make over then something suprising will happen ...

:yeah GOONG [Palace] :yeah

To be honest with you, I've never seen EUN HYE :wasntme act before. I've only heard her sing [BABY VOX]. I have a lot of expectations not only towards the series but also towards her. She, physically, looks like she actually fits the role as Chae G but what I want to know is if she can portray her role as Chae G perfectly. She is, after all, the heroine of the story. She is the center of attention.
The same goes for JI HOON :iloveyou: . He's got the killer looks, the devilish smirk and the wild attitude like Shin. A very tough exterior but since he's a newbie, I still have my doubts about his acting.
JUNG HOON :tricky: , I believe he fits the role. His smart physique is good but he looks more like the serious type, too serious.
JI HYO :whistle , I've seen Wishing Stairs. I also believe that she fits the role perfectly.

I'm sorry but Moon GY is not a part of the cast. There were rumors that a lot of great actors and actresses auditioned for the series but instead of them, fresh faces were chosen for the role. They also chose great supporting actors and actresses to enhance the beauty of the series. Its a suicidal attempt but the director & producer clearly stated that "we (viewers) judge when we've seen the series"

Most of the manhwa/manga's story is altered. I just hope that this series will try to stick to the storyline. Anyway, this series is something to look forward to. Not only is the story really cool but the characters are also crazy [emphasis on Chae G & Shin]

Thank you very much, gcLef! Although I am a bit disappointed about the casting . . . (I was hoping that MGY would at least be the main girl) There were others who didn't want MGY as CG because she "looks too young" but she's just about the closest in age to the actual manwha characters and I could've seen her in that role. KDW and JIS would've been hot in it . . .

Oh well, I hope the series and acting does come out good though. Even though the Full House tv series was good, it was very different from the manwha. So I hope that the tv series Goong sticks closer to the manwha than Full House did.

:yeah GOONG :yeah

NP! Well, I'm not surprised why MGY didn't play CHAE G. She does look a bit young but that is not the only reason. Her appeal as a drama genre artist is highly recognized by viewers. Also, her appearance looks a little too sweet and too nice. CHAE G is a funny looking character so I believe a funny looking character like EUN HYE is what the director and producer wanted for the role. Come to think of it, CHAE G makes a lot of funny facial expressions. I also believe that the director and producer chose EUN HYE as CHAE G not as some other character for a reason. They must have seen that she suits the part. Usually, producers would feel the spark while casting the characters.

The same happened to SONG HYE KYO and RAIN. People had doubts about the their performance. A lot of people criticized them but KBS was very confident. Full House is a major success and asians loved the series! So if they believe in EUN HYE and JI HOON that much, then we should believe in them too!

PS: @sudu: this is Dong wook/se7en

IS Palace and goong same story? Why do they change to other actor and actress?
I think before that it's better.
But I don't know other people thinking about.
Sorry if I make something mistake.

GOONG <Korean word> meaning Palace in English.
So Hee Park named GOONG as GOONG because the story mainly focuses on Korea's royal family who still exists after the Japanese war. Not only that! it was also named GOONG because the GOONG/Palace has different dark issues tackled within its walls.

For me, I believe that the previous actors chosen for GOONG is inappropriate for the role. Their looks are a bit too mature to play the teenage roles. Also, the characters are playful and childish so there must be young spirits dwelling among the cast. Also, this is one good way to promote younger actors/actresses for the betterment of their career/their future career. I mean, its not bad to hire someone new right? its not a way to replace the stars but its a way to create privileges for aspiring drama kings and queens.

Waah..I ABSOLUTELY love the cast!! Exactly as how I envisioned them as I was reading the manga. And I couldn't be ahppier with the choice of Joo Ji Hoon as Shin. Acting wise, we'll have to see but I think physically, he's very fitting for shin. And love that 'aloof' look in the pic...exactly how he's character should be.

some more pics I found after googling.

Really, I read the mahwa and I really like it. Looking forward to see this series. Yeah, I agree with KBW , Full House are not really based on the manga. I think if it's based on the manga, it seems to be more interested. The fact that I don't like that series is just around Bi and Hye-Kyo. They don't have any climax and big trouble come in that series. They just like arguing with each other and then like each other.

but i prefer soft drama like full house.. the show don't have some irritating guy or woman trying to break the couple apart. some other korean shows have like ppl dying-cancer, i prefer cute dramas like this.

goong, the manga is also similar to full hse, as in the show.
i hope they stick to the manga and not change it too badly.

to clear up a little misunderstanding, Full house is not based on Goong. there are some similarities, but it's actually based on another korean comic book with the same name, Full House. so to those who are saying that Full house should have stucked with the original plot of the manhwa, it did (just a little variation in location and character names), but not out of Goong's plot, but Full House's plot. :)

here's a little info bout the comic book the drama is based on: http://www.centralpa...line/fullhouse/

i'm really looking forward to this drama! >_< there's something in Joo Ji Hoon that emits the Shin-aura B) can't wait to see this! <3
