if you print stuff at least once a month and want the best printing quality go for an epson printer.
if you rarely print go for HP. they have a technology to keeps your ink and printhead unclogged i think.
laser printer would be good if you only print black cuz color laser printer are pricier than ink jet printer.

What do you need the printer for? If it's mostly black and white, go for a laser. I've only ever had one inkjet because it was not reliable and the ink tended to dry out before I ever managed to use it up. I also realized that most of the stuff I printed was in black and white anyway. I do not miss having a color inkjet and love my laser printer.
Laser printers do cost more initially than inkjets, but they cost a lot less to operate. A $60 toner cartridge for a laser printer is likely to print 3000 pages before you need to replace it. A $20-40 inkjet cartridge will print maybe 500 pages. Additionally, a laser printer can put out 15-30 pages per minute; most inkjets cannot keep up with this pace.
Samsung laser printers are decent and priced very competitively but their supplies cost more than others.
I like HP laser printers personally. They also last forever. If you don't mind buying a used printer, the Laserjet 2200d can be a very good deal. It prints 20 pages per minute, does duplexing (automatically prints on both sides of paper) and the toner is fairly inexpensive and lasts a long time. The Laserjet 1320 can be bought new and has similar features, though I think the toner is a bit more expensive.

Agreed with ae86, if it's just black and white, go for laser! We have an HP1020/1022 (can't remember) at home and it spits pages out like nobody's business (good, constant print quality as well - even if it's only black and white). It's a low-end model mind you, but it is more than suffice for student purposes (if that's what you're looking for). Brother is a reputable company for laser printers as well.
Don't let the high cost of replacement toners fool you, you will save much more money by going laser than sticking with inkjet. Unless you're wanting to print stuff like pictures, images from your digital camera, etc., then by all means ignore my post.

For $200, you can actually get a color HP laserjet printer!! It is their low end model, but at least it is laser and color!!
I'm a supporter of laser printers, because you can print 1000's of pages before the toner runs out...unlike ink jet where you have to replace the cartridge often. Plus it's a lot cheaper to buy a bottle of laser printer "powder" than a bottle of ink jet printer "refill cartridge".

i agree with ae8... samsung makes decent laser printers. HP, Brother both are pretty good too.
