Or when I pass a religious item, say, a Buddha, I'll just do a little prayer in my head. xD Nothing wrong with trying!

one of my friends told me this one
anyone heard of a wish chip??
when you eat a packet of potato chips and you come across a folded chip, when you eat it you make a wish...and you must finish the whole "wish chip"
ooor
a wishbone?

and when you land the wishbone in a chicken/turkey, you get to wish with a friend and whoever breaks of the larger part of the bone gets the wish.

Well I think people would make a wish when its their birthday, they see a shooting star, throw money into the wishing well/pond or when they are really desperate to get their wishes fulfilled..

making wishes can be all fun and games, but i personally think it can be developmentally detrimental to rely on wishes and chance occurrences for good fortune.
relying on wishes is essentially externalising a problem, which compromises a person's ability to solve the problem. a person may wish for something, but its overwhelmingly more likely to achieve it if they exert some effort in working towards that goal. a person who wishes to develop intimate relationships is less likely to enter one than a person who continuously puts him/herself into the social atmosphere lookin to pick up. a person who wishes to win the lottery is less likely to be wealthier than the person who works hard and saves, and/or puts their money into many smart investments. a person who wishes to perform well on a test is less likely to perform better than the person who puts in more hours of study for that test.
sometimes, miracles may occur. is this the result of someone's prayers being answered? perhaps. did somebody's wish come true? maybe. but isnt it more ideal to work yourself into a situation where you dont have to make a wish to bring yourself good fortune?
*edit*
i forgot to mention, much respect to those who wish for altruistic ideals such as world peace or the end of hunger and starvation etc

Star light star bright,

Have the wish i wish tonight

- pray
- 11:11
- stars
- moon
- wishing fountains
- Dandelions (this is not proven to be true but I just wished on it and blew off the seeds, sort of like an experiment and just trying to make myself feel better at that moment)

I used to hold my breath and make a wish every time I went through a tunnel, or in the evening when the first star shows up. I never really made wishes on my birthdays.. always forgot to because I was too excited to blow out the candles, haha.
