okay, well i've heard of only a few times when people make wishes:

when they find an eyelash that came off
when they see a shooting star
when the time is 11:11

are there anymore that i dont know about and which ones do you make wishes on?

when you pray.
I remember someone once told me that you can pray to the moon and make a wish anytime you want.

and

during birthdays when blowing out the candles

Usually everytime I look at the clock and it's 11:11. ^_^
Or when I pass a religious item, say, a Buddha, I'll just do a little prayer in my head. xD Nothing wrong with trying!

one of my friends told me this one

when you eat a packet of potato chips and you come across a folded chip, when you eat it you make a wish...and you must finish the whole "wish chip"

ooor

i've been told 3am is a good time to make wishes. though that kinda scares me as that's also been said to be the witching hour.
and when you land the wishbone in a chicken/turkey, you get to wish with a friend and whoever breaks of the larger part of the bone gets the wish.

I've been told if you go look at the time and it's 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44 (iono why?), 5:55, 11:11 you make a wish. And definitely when you see a shooting star and on your birthday. Usually if there's a fountain or something I make a wish then throw a penny.

grrr.. didn't know that 11:11 is a good time to make wishes.. I've seen quite a lot of 11:11 last year -_-

Well I think people would make a wish when its their birthday, they see a shooting star, throw money into the wishing well/pond or when they are really desperate to get their wishes fulfilled..

I used to make a wish at 11:11 as you mentioned cause a friend told me to make a wish everyday at that time. I kinda stopped wishing at that time... but i would wish something if i see a very pretty sky full of stars or if i happen to see a shooting star. Not that I think my wish will come true. ^^; But I have always liked the starry sky and taking a few sec to close my eyes and just simply make a wish is something very relaxing to me. And of cause, if the wish comes true i would be even happier. =]

One time, I made a wish after I blew out my candles for my birthday and my wish actually came true. Another time that I like making wishes is when there's a full moon right before I got to sleep.

Obviously during my birthday. As a night owl, I make my wishes at 12:34. I've only seen one shooting star in my lifetime, but I've made a wish that time too. After I throw a voin into a fountain or a wishing well, nd when I blow at dandelions.

Ive heard a good one from my grandparents, never done it though. But on New year, you have to write your wish on a piece of paper, and when the clock starts striking, you have to burn it, and drink the ash with champagne..before the clock strikes 12... Im not sure if I believe it, but I thought it was quite interesting =)

Birthday or praying. I don't always make wishes. I haven't seen shooting stars either but I would really love to see one! It sounds really awesome and all, :] I haven't heard of the other two you mentioned above. But it still sounds interesting. Hopefully, I would be watching shooting stars like what happened in Heart of Greed where Dak Dak Dei and Sheung Joi Sum watches the meteor shower night's shooting star. :D

not sure if there can be a certain time or place where wishes should be made, because where in one instance wishing on say a shooting star may come true, there is likely a million (figuratively speaking) more instances where the wish does not come true..

making wishes can be all fun and games, but i personally think it can be developmentally detrimental to rely on wishes and chance occurrences for good fortune.

relying on wishes is essentially externalising a problem, which compromises a person's ability to solve the problem. a person may wish for something, but its overwhelmingly more likely to achieve it if they exert some effort in working towards that goal. a person who wishes to develop intimate relationships is less likely to enter one than a person who continuously puts him/herself into the social atmosphere lookin to pick up. a person who wishes to win the lottery is less likely to be wealthier than the person who works hard and saves, and/or puts their money into many smart investments. a person who wishes to perform well on a test is less likely to perform better than the person who puts in more hours of study for that test.

sometimes, miracles may occur. is this the result of someone's prayers being answered? perhaps. did somebody's wish come true? maybe. but isnt it more ideal to work yourself into a situation where you dont have to make a wish to bring yourself good fortune?

*edit*

i forgot to mention, much respect to those who wish for altruistic ideals such as world peace or the end of hunger and starvation etc

I think that the best time to make a wish is at your birthday, when you see a shooting star and when you go pray to some sort of god. Well that what I think. You wish probably won't come true if you wish for something outrageous like to be a millionire.

once, my wish came true. :]
but just that once, and it was my first time wishing.
and so i just wish for the fun of it and hope it happens.

Star light star bright,

I wish i may,
i wish i might
Have the wish i wish tonight

Then you make your wish

XD It has to be with the first star you see that night

Hmms. I :

- pray
- 11:11
- stars
- moon
- wishing fountains
- Dandelions (this is not proven to be true but I just wished on it and blew off the seeds, sort of like an experiment and just trying to make myself feel better at that moment)

I think I have given up on making wishes haha. I know it's all for one's own comfort/pleasure, but... *sigh*.

I used to hold my breath and make a wish every time I went through a tunnel, or in the evening when the first star shows up. I never really made wishes on my birthdays.. always forgot to because I was too excited to blow out the candles, haha. :P
