Age of Glory, a new drama series on ntv7, looks at the glory days of
nightclub singers and the lives of those intertwined with them.

PERIOD drama Age Of Glory, a joint production between ntv7 and Double Vision
(of the Vision New Media group) is a period drama set in the swinging '60s
that chronicles the trials and tribulations of ordinary people who did
extraordinary things.

It showcases the rise and fall of the Zhong Hua fun fair, a melting pot of
culture where night turns into day and where people from all walks of life
come for the colourful lights and music.

The drama is considered a milestone for local Mandarin drama serials and
boasts 40 episodes set in a Malayan backdrop. It stars Debbie Goh, Miss
Chinese International Malaysia 1998, who has since been based in Hong Kong
with numerous movies to her name.

Others in the line-up include Danielle Dai, host of last year's ntv7's Star
Idol Malaysia and Annie Wong, who starring in the station's ongoing drama
Elly.
Actor/model Steve Yap, Leslie Chai, Melvin Sia and Lee Meng Chong make up
the rest of the cast.

For her debut in a Malaysian drama, Goh not only tackles the role of a
nightclub singer but also singing and dancing, which she has never done
before.

What is more amazing is that she dances with a giant snake! Although scared
silly initially, she eventually curbed her fear and scared the living
daylights out of her co-stars with her "new friend".

That aside, given the backdrop of nightclubs and night lounges, it is
inevitable that there are plenty of kissing and bedroom scenes. But Goh was
more worried about their costumes.

"It is the '60s and '70s," she said. "Kissing or bedroom scenes would not be
too graphic. It's all camera angles and such.

"However, because the three female leads are nightclub singers, our costumes
are rather revealing and at first we were worried about the censorship
board's
reaction." But fortunately, everything went through smoothly.

Yap revealed that he has the most of the bedroom scenes as he is rather a
playboy in the drama. And since he is a happily married chap in reality, he
was wary when they cropped up.

"I had scenes with four girls," he revealed. "And I was especially worried
when it was Debbie... hey, it's Miss Chinese International Malaysia... what
would my wife say when she sees it?"

Every cast member has his or her challenge in the drama and Dai feels that
her challenge lay in emoting her character role, especially since she was
filming a special for Chinese New Year at the time and had to switch from
happy to sad.

There are blood, sweat and tears in Age Of Glory but Goh feels that it also
tells you that life has hope despite everything.

"As long as you don't give up, your moment will come one day," she said.
