time to get a replacement. Most laptop battery nowaday provide at least 3+ hours of usage.

looks like ur battery is just losing its charge. mines starting to do the same. turning the brightness of the display down will conserve the battery a bit longer though

Since it does seem ot be leaking power, I suggest you get a nwe one immediately, or at least stop using this battery. You wouldn't want to keep using a laptop with a battry that's leaking power, it'll directly effect ur health and your laptop's health (maybE)

Unless you plan to get jipped on a battery that only lives for 3 hours... <_< :loool: Hey, that's your choice. Not mine.

I just keep my AC adaptor in all the time. They should last for a couple months or so.

How old is that battery?
My battery can last about 5 hours with the centrino technology and also the Toshiba power management program. This prog has few options, like to max power, or max performance. The other way of perserving battery is to make sure your battery is recharge once in a while and not plugged into the AC all the time. As for me, I will take out the battery and use AC only. I have been using the laptop for 11 months, and it still gives me 4 hours plus.

Simple Guidelines ref

1) Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly caused by heat rather than charge/discharge patterns.

2) Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

3) Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)

4) Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing date. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.

Hope these help.

Yea agree, i have a laptop too i always carry additional battery incase my battery runs out. Try to lower your screen brightness, CPU process speed, etc... will help extend your battery life.

To prolong battery life, terminate any programs that are running that you do not need. Lower the LCD brightness/backlight. Turn off or disconnect uneccessary devices. For example, if you're not using your Wifi, turn it off because that radio uses a lot of power.

My laptop and battery is nearly 2 years old and lasts about 2 hours per charge if I don't use Wifi. Wifi prolly lowers battery llife to about 90 min...It's a P3M which prolly use more power than the new P4M computers. Fairly good run times, but I generally have it powered by AC adapter or DC-DC adapter if I'm running it in my car for GPS or MP3 player.

i think that most probablely u overcharged ur battery. thats why it has this memory effect, ie. u charge until 50% but then in a few minutes it goes back down to 7%. ur battery has gotten less and less capacity over time because of the memory effect. there is no way to fix it, just go get a new one. wont matter if u turn the settings / performance down, it will still drain like sh*t.

next time only recharge ur battery when its empty or nearly empty to avoid memory effect / overcharging.

mine last for 2 hours and 40 minutes. But as times goes on the life span will gets shorter. If you wants to preserve the life span, i guess it will be better if you took your battery out and use ac unless it is necessary.

My friend has a laptop and he always uses his battery even though he has his AC adapter with him. His battery can last for over 3 hours. I ask him how and he said the more you use the battery, they longer it'll last. He said its like a "training" thing.

Lol, I doubt it, the only thing I've ever heard of is wear and tear :P

Ask your friend to prove his statement.

Lithium ion and lithium ion-polymer cells do not suffer from a memory effect, and so there is no need to run the battery down fully before charging up -- actually, topping up the charge will give you many more charge cycles than deep discharges.

It's only the old nickel cadmium and to a lesser extent, nickel metal hydride cells that suffered from a memory effect.

All Li-ion/Li-polymer cells have sophisticated ICs built into them to control the charging cycle so that you don't need to worry about it that much. The charging cycle needs to be regulated, as lithium is very reactive and potentially very dangerous -- you occassionally hear about exploding batteries, where obviously something has gone wrong with the control circuitry.

If your battery is not reporting the charge correctly, it may be that the control circuitry has gone out of callibration with the cells wrt the voltage/discharge characteristic curve. You can try letting the battery run completely flat, then charging up fully, perhaps repeatedly, to re-callibrate it. If this doesn't do the trick, you are looking at a new battery.

you can actually remove your battery from the laptop..and re-slot it in.. it might work i'm not sure.. cos i used to have the same prob..the contact is just either dirty..as in it's filled with dust..or contact's loose already.. but yea.. most probably its time to change your battery...
normally, laptop battery can last bout 2 yrs..but depending on your usage, it may be more or less than that..

True, sometimes the problems aren't really problems, I've had a lot of times panicing about huge problems that I had when it was actually a small error.

my Acer laptop is running on Centrino chipset. managed to get 4 hours of battery life when its new. But current after 6 months of usage the battery still can give a kick of almost 3 hours+. Do try to charge it as frequent as i can.

When you get a new battery then try often to uncharge the battery now and then and then charge it up. That way the battery will last longer. If you are charging it often without it being totally uncharged the cells will not be charged properly.

Laptop batteries can't last long, although the technique is improving fast. But until the time is that a laptop battery can run like a whole day, having a spare battery is a option.
I have a Toshiba laptop, at first the battery last for about 8 hours, now about 4 years later, it last for 5 or 6 hours.
It also depends what you are doing with it, if you are just using it for internet or Words, the battery will last longer. But if you are watching movies or playing games, then it consumes more of the battery.

i think on centrino it will last about 3-4 hours
and for pentium 4 processor it will lat for about 1-2 hours
and amd processor should be the same as pentium processor about 1-2 hours!!
