Haven't had time to check it out yet, but here's the official Sina coverage of Golden Horse Awards with pics: http://ent.sina.com....a45/index.shtml

And here's cfensi's blog with the full short film that Ariel (and many others) were in at the start of GHA :) http://cfensi.wordpress.com/2008/12/06/the...n-horse-awards/

Thanks Hectic and swim for those videos :D
That short film was really funny and enjoyable to watch! I hope that Taiwanese movies will get more exposure in the future because of this. Glad Ariel could be a part of it. Who knows, maybe she will star in one herself some day ^^

Fans December 2008 Ariel's Merry Christmas
Part 2
Translated by catalie@asianfanatics.net
with a little help from tammiest ^^

Church: Previously getting married at a church in Guam in "They Kiss Again", will you want to get married in a church in the future?

If it doesn't concern religion, of course I want to! However, I wouldn't want to go to a spendid, majestic, over-luxurious church to get married, just a small church that's warm and has a nice atmosphere, then I would be satisfied.

House: You belong to the class of entertainers who were born in the '80's and already have houses. What did you take into consideration the first time you bought a house? If you bought a house in the future, what criteria would it have to meet? In the future, would you like to be a landlady and rely on rent as income?

When I bought this house, I considered the surroundings because a house will affect one's spending and lifestyle habits. Also, the place must be convenient for work. My current house is very close to where I work and do makeup. It is also close to Sun Yat-sen memorial hall where my mother can release dogs. I've heard people say that you must not sell off the first house you buy as it is considered the base, where your wealth is stored. If I was to buy another house, I would consider the internal layout. I hope it looks like a Japanese house where the centre of the house leads to hallways in all four directions, also separated by walls, so that it feels as though there is another world in the centre; my current house doesn't have a garden or view. Most importantly, the district should be good. If I were to buy a second house, I hope it has plenty of space so my mother can look after dogs and pigs, as well as plant flowers, ha! My mother really wants to keep pigs! In the future, I would like to be a landlady but I can be very extreme and also contradictory. I want to lease to big corporate booses or to poor students because I would lease to them at a low price but also arrange everything very nicely so they get the feeling of home.

Reception: Whose greeting would you most like to receive this Christmas?

(Ariel reveals a very sweet smile and uses a doll-like, teasing voice to say~) The person I like, hehe.

Improvement: This year has almost ended, the new year is fast approaching. In what aspect would you like to improve in?

Probably my quality of work! I hope to have the opportunity to act in an interesting movie, or like Joe, participate in a theatrical drama, I really envy this point about him.

Santa Claus: In your heart, who would be most suited to act the role of Santa Claus?

Colonel Sanders [or in Ariel's words: Grandpa Kentucky]

Time: If you could alter the established 24hour day, how many hours would you hope for?

I don't wish to change this because if a day had 48 ours, but we could only live for 40 years, I wouldn't like that either. It would be better to leave it as it is.

Mother: What sort of mother is your mother? How close are you two?
She isn't afraid of kissing me haha, just joking! It doesn't get to the point of playing tonsil hockey, if it came down to that, it would be quite nauseating! However, if she wants to kiss me, I'll let her kiss me. Previously when I returned from working in China, she hugged me as soon as she saw me and then kissed me, ha. Sometimes when I'm taking the stairs with my mother and I'm walking in front of her, she will sneakily pinch my butt, haha. However, her and my younger brother aren't as close. My mother and younger brother's relationship is like older sister and younger brother. Sometimes they will be so loud as though they were quarrelling, very interesting.

hi wwwthai, i think LOB is really picking up. The episodes are getting better and better. Felt like chopping Frank to bits and pieces and oh Shan-mei ... my heart breaks for you. I admit it's a little bit melodramatic but who cares, Ariel gives one fine performance.

Joe's really doing so well as Frank, I felt like hitting him left and right ... and sometimes desperately longing for Zhi Shu to save poor Shan-mei .... hahaha.

Extracted from the What I've learned in the year 2008 from Marie Claire no.188 (:
Translated by catalie

I have leared the sweetness of not doing things according to schedule (倒吃甘蔗 Literally: eating sugar cane i.e. bitter then sweet)

Adjusting to complicated situations (峰回路轉 Literally: A mountain road with twists and turns), a new outlook (柳暗花明 Literally: dark willows and blooming flowers), not doing things according to schedule - these have been my emotions this past year. In January before we finished filming Legend of Condor Heroes, we rushed filming for 6 days and nights straight, without any sleep at all. At the time, the temperature went below zero, I wore a single layer of clothing and depended on my determination to strive on and finish filming those important scenes. Whenever we applied makeup, my tears flowed were out of control, using my own method to release my emotions and unburden myself.
After LOCH ended, the drama I was meant to film in May/June was cancelled temporarily, suddenly my schedule for the second half of the year was empty. But God still wouldn't let me rest. In May and June, many things happened. Work, emotions, family all caused me to feel troubled. At the same time, lots of things were dragging along, not allowing me to stay calm and think about what to do next. During this period of time, I bought my dream home, resolved the father/daughter relationship that was lost for many years. In amongst being pulled and dragged between by parents, I did a full body checkup and realised complications had come up... basically, many bad things all occurred in this period of time.
In the second half of the year, I worked with Joe for the third time on "Love or Bread" which was an accidental reward. While I was filming I found out that I had been nominated for a Golden Bell award but didn't have much anticipation in winning. Then it was my 26th birthday, I won the Golden Bell Best Actress award and then even moved into my new dream house. This is really the sweetness of not doing things in sequence.

For some reason, that part got cut from the online version.
The rest of the article has been translated by Kassy:

Found some time to watch ep2 of LoB today. Really enjoy watching Ariel as ShanMei, can't help feeling sorry for her, her troubles just keep coming at her.

Check this out and tell me what you think: Ariel/Kyoko (I've never read the manga; I assume it's Ariel's face superimposed over Kyoko's graphics rendition).

http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=508605136

It seems to have elicited both positive and negative comments in Baidu. I thought it looked cute and sexy.

Wow, so many beautiful mag scans of Ariel.
My faves were
Fans mag scans – Lol, @ the falling Ariel figures. I like Ariel’s outfit; she looks pretty, sweet, unique and a little sexy without being too revealing.
Marie Claire – I have to agree with alyn; I love this scan, because Ariel looks so classic and confident, ready to tackle the new year head on. It’s not necessarily the most beautiful picture I’ve ever seen of her, but in a way, it is, because her confidence and poise make her more lovely.
Full mag scan with Ariel in red and black with Joe – it’s kind of contradictory, but it’s the combination of Ariel’s conservative red/black outfit, the look on Ariel’s face, and her extended leg bared below the knee that make the pic sexy. (imho)

Btzi,
Spoiler

Lol, oops, I didn’t even recognize LSS’s name, even with Ariel and Hu Ge being their as big hints. (Where was Yuan Hong for all of this??) Heh, I don’t blame Ariel for missing the trick/pun question at the end – I’m terrible at those… I am interested in hearing what her (incorrect) answer was, though, lol.

Cat! <3 Thanks for the translations! I love how excited Ariel is about going to America again and experiencing Christmas there. I’m a little confused, though… do you think she’s going soon/is already there (in NYC)? She applied *last year* for leave to vacation near Christmastime 2008 in NYC with her mom, and Choustar was putting aside some time in December for her to go. SB/EC is starting filming in mid-December, so do you think she’s going in NYC now-ish? NYC-ers, keep a lookout – you might see Ariel and Mama Lin walking by casually on the street! =) Heh, it’s cute how much of a romantic the typically practical Ariel is.

Haha, I think it’s so cute that Mama Lin wants to keep pigs, and Ariel will take that into consideration if/when she earns the money to buy a second house for her fam. I like how Ariel’s careful consideration of what she’d like the next house to look like if she ever gets one. Japanese style house reminds me of Love Contract. I love how Ariel describes things sometimes: “it feels as though there is another world in the centre.”

Aww, hehe, hope Ariel gets greeted by the person she likes this year =) Really hope she can be in an interesting movie (or two…. Please please please).
Lol, “Grandpa Kentucky” would make a very skinny Santa Claus, though if he wore a fat suit, he’d be a quite suitable Santa :D

Agree with Ariel – more than 24 hours in a day would = exhaustion. (I already experienced something like a 39 hour day when we gained time flying back from Taiwan, and I wouldn’t really enjoy having to stay up that long every day O_O )

Ariel and her mom are so close. `It’s sweet that Ariel’s not worried about her mom kissing her (on the lips) in public; most kids here past a certain age would be like “Yuck, MOM! Get away from me! Don’t hug me, don’t touch me!”) I can understand why they’re so close, though – once Ariel got old enough to understand responsibility (pretty young for her), she and her mom pretty much only had each other to rely on (since Ariel was mostly taking care of her younger bro).

On What I’ve learned in 2008:
Love Ariel’s analogies of “eating sugar cane” (especially since she just participated in the Golden Sugar Cane Film Festival), “a mountain road with twists and turns,” and “dark willows with blooming flowers.” She’s been through a lot of unexpected bumps and problems this year, but impressively, her tenacity/determination in weathering the storm paid off. Can’t imagine the end of filming for 6 days an nights, with her average ~ 1.4 hours sleep per night and wearing single layer clothes in below freezing weather :-\ Amazing that her HR and LOCH as a whole turned out so well under those inhospitable conditions. (Kudos to the “Ruined Women Trio,” along with Li Jie, too, for weathering some long filming times in the most frigid weather ;) ) Poor Ariel, being so exhausted and chilled to the bone that she cried every morning of that week as a release. (No wonder the team sang her praises as an utmost professional – she got the least sleep and was still able to be energetic and cheerful on set… U go girl! )

I was so bummed when Paper Rose was temporarily cancelled (noticed how she said “temporarily” cancelled… wonder if that means it’s still on for after SB/EC filming?), but I guess it was a sort of blessing in disguise, because Ariel needed a nice, long rest, especially with all of the problems coming her way. Even with everything seemingly falling apart at the same time, Ariel was able to pull things together and achieve two things that will probably stand as major milestones in her life. Lol, I love how Ariel calls LOB an “accidental reward”… it was good that when Paper Rose fell through, LOB fell right back into her lap, so she could do a drama, especially with Joe again (and working with a new director, Dir. Lin). And yaay, great b-day present - winning the GBA (hard work paid off) and moving into her family’s self-decorated “dream house” (paid with her own hard-earned money).

From Kassy’s part: I still can’t say I completely trust Ariel’s dad after what he did to their family, but I’m so happy that Ariel was able to reconcile with him b/c she was willing to reach out, even if it meant putting herself in the middle of her parents. It was really touching to read how Ariel helped her dad (the same one who abandoned her) out with money by agreeing with his offer to pay him to shuttle her around to and from work. (I like that unlike her character Shan Mei, Ariel doesn’t give meaningless free dole outs to her loved ones just b/c they want some money. Like with her brother, Ariel said she wouldn’t just give him all of the money to start/run a restaurant; she’d watch him build his own business with his own hard work and offer help if he really needed it. Same with her dad; instead of just giving him money, the chauffeur method gave him a way to be useful and earn his money (instead of just taking her money and running), and it let them spend more time together and get to know each other. Hrm, she’s quite a bit more thoughtful than me, though; I don’t know if I’d be able to forgive my father for abandoning our family and effectively saddling us with millions of debt. Ariel actually offers thanks for finding her dad and says she should question what she’s done for him instead of blaming him? I could learn a lot about forgiveness from her.

Haha, it’s so cute that Ariel mentions “Mr. Security Guard” as the one who helped her find the relatively cheap house of dreams for her fam. Love what she says at the end about opening our eyes and looking around instead of only being focused inside, on ourselves.

The quick question and answer was interesting, too. Mama Lin and Xiao Yu got a lot of mention. Omg! Ariel met Janet, the host of “Fun Taiwan”?! Haha, I just saw Janet’s show on the plane ride from U.S. to TW. Janet was raised in U.S., but went back to Taiwan to live now that she’s grown, and she speaks fluent Mandarin and Taiwanese (impressive). Bet she and Ariel had a lot to talk about. Anyone know how/when they met?? I’m curious as to what Ariel’s fave book really is now… “Secret” or an *actual* secret, lol?

The iPhone from Joe was a very meaningful present; it was so touching when he gave it to her and explained how he had specifically asked Ariel’s assistant not to take her shopping, so she couldn’t buy the phone (and Ariel said she almost *did* buy it! thank goodness she didn’t, mwahaha). I noticed that Joe said “we” decided it would be best if I got Ariel the iPhone. I wonder who “we” (other than Joe, of course) was. The rest of the young LOB cast? Rainie and Joe? Xiao Yu and Ariei’s assistant? Ariel looked so touched. Wonder who got her the Tiffany necklace… girl or guy? (probably girl, because I don’t know if any guy would be so daring).

Rikayla, yeah, it’s a smart move for Ariel to be really careful with dairy CF contracts. There were some worries among some other stars who took on dairy CF deals in China – like FRH – when the melamine scare came out. No one wants to promote a product that has melamine/toxin in it… Dang it, though, for some reason, my brain thought if Ariel was in the Golden Horse short film, she’d be at the awards ceremony, too… but she wasn’t. *fingers crossed that she and Mama Lin are enjoying themselves in NYC!*

Yipeeyey, thanks for all of the great subbed clips :D Btw, love the background/wallpaper at the Villa =) Nice work to all of the Villa girls!! :yeah

Hectic, from the LOB event clip, you can definitely see why the fans are screaming :D The game, with guys and girls playing opposite each other, couldn’t help but elicit screams, but with Ariel and Joe playing, it’s a whole other story… bet some fans went hoarse screaming at their closeness ;)

W00t, I almost forgot Ariel and Figaro were on that cooking show. Can’t wait to see Ariel cooking up a storm :D (baking, maybe? *hopeful*)

In regards to the short film, I liked Ariel’s part, but I was a little disappointed that it was so short (though I knew it would be). Love her expression at Rui Jia’s gushing/antics over the “guy actor.” Ariel’s expression was like “Cute? Are you insane?” LOL, and then Ariel’s reaction at Barbie’s entrance and when she’s focusing the spotlight.
Tammi,
Spoiler

Wwwthai and btzi, LOB is alternately making me really angry and sad.
Spoiler

Btzi, LOL, the Ariel/Kyoko graphic is interesting. I was a little taken aback to see Ariel with wild, short, blonde hair, haha, but her face is quite similar to Kyoko’s in shape and appearance (though no human being can quite have the ginormous manga eyes that take up half of their faces, lol). I think the expression on Ariel’s face from that pic doesn’t fit well with Kyoko’s expression at that moment. We’ll just have to wait to actually *see* Ariel acting as Kyoko, rather than a superimposed pic of Ariel giving a cute smile. (They could have picked a more fitting Ariel expression, but I guess it’s hard to find just the right face to fit into the graphic).

Everyone, don't forget your personal Christmas/New Year's messages for Ariel! (refer to previously posted info here) Deadline is approaching fast!!

EDIT:
Hectic, thanks for the latest pics. What exactly are they for? Ariel looks quite pretty in purple and silver. The pics remind me a bit of Ariel's Nan Shan blog. The translation turns out as something about "intellectual elegance." Is it kinda like a sweeter, more elegant version of the "spicy teacher" pics? The silver one is kinda daringly short, but Ariel looks sweet nonetheless. (If Ariel changed her expression in the pics, she could be a totally different person. Seriously, I want to see her play someone like Mandy Moore did in "Saved" - the self-righteous **tch-and-a-half, a "mean girl" (a la "Mean Girls"), or just a very torn, twisted villain - most of all, want to see her play the latter :) *waits patiently for such a role to come along for her* )

Fan Mag: The first two photos that Hectic posted (Post #242) is the front and back covers of the issue with Ariel. You've to buy another copy if you want Joe on the cover.

Magscan of Marie Claire: That's on the inside page. Rainie's on the cover. I'm beginning to wonder if the Ariel shoot a few months ago was also a story inside that's why I didn't see it on the newstands.

Kept forgetting to answer Hectic's question. 国父纪念馆 is Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (hall built to commemorate the nation's founding father Sun Yat-sen).

Ariel's answer/reaction to the monkey trick question:

Ariel: Ennn... (thought about it for 30 seconds) .... must have something to do with a monkey's butt being red ... (continued thinking about it for 30 seconds) quick tell me the answer la. Parallel lines? Why? (after hearing the answer) haha! haha! haha! (could hardly breathe from laughing so much)

*reporter's comments in brackets.

**btzi faints: red butt? me mate calls!!!

Hu Ge: What monkeys dislike most are orangutans. (Why?) Because orangutans and monkeys are similar but they (orangutans) are bigger, so monkeys don't like them.

xt, hehe, I like Ariel/Shan Mei's expression in the first pic... it looks like she's contemplating murder (I wonder whose? :buahaha ;) )

btzi, :loool: thanks for sharing. Red monkey butt? (and Hu Ge's orangutans?) Their logic is... hilarious :buahaha (Not that I would have done any better). Wish we could have seen Ariel's laughing-so-hard-she-couldn't-breathe, lol :D

Found this article in baidu that mentioned Ariel, Jerry and Extravagant Challenge... has another new cast member been added on? Might it be Kanae, Kyoko (Ariel's character's) best friend? http://news.pchome.com.tw/entertainment/no...8983862006.html (Oh, heh, it's the news about Tiffany saying she's going to be in EC).

EC: Tiffany has already mentioned that she'll be in EC in an interview a few weeks ago. This article talks more of the watch that she's advertising, her relationship with Ethan and her upcoming performance in EC (it didn't mention what role she would be playing).

Spoiler
Q&A contd:

Reporter: What big important international conference was held in Peru recently?

Ariel: I think it's APEC.
Hu GE: (looks pained) I'm shooting/filming eh ... Peru is so far, how should I know (reporter gives him a hint: this conference is related to the economy; Shanghai has also hosted this event in the past) Let me think ... ay ... ay (reporter continues giving clues: Starts with the letter "A", four English letters) APEC? haha, I've got a fairly good memory.

*trust Hu Ge to praise himself hahahaha...

Btzi, thanks! I’m guessing Tiffany will be Kanae, and her and Ariel will get to try out a best friends dynamic. I think (from ISWAK) they mesh well as rival friends, but this will be on an entirely different level… *glee* I really can’t wait to see Ariel as Kyoko.

Ariel knew the APEC answer right away… man, I’m so behind on current events/news/common world knowledge right now.

Just spotted Cathy’s latest blog entry about the past several days of her Choustar schedule, mostly with Ariel… might someone be able to translate the Ariel related parts? Ariel hasn’t been in NYC like I suspected she might be, but she’s certainly been quietly busy! Check out this:
http://www.wretch.cc...iu0819/17863862
Spoiler
Brief overview:
11/29 & 11/30 – lengthy description of LOB promos
12/1 – description of AIDS Event
12/2 – not Ariel related?
12/3 – Granting wish LOB program
12/4 – Yaay! Ariel shot the cover and inside pages of Men’s Uno again! I usually really like their shots of Ariel… hope it turns out beautifully this time, too! :D
12/5 – Not Ariel related
12/6 – Not Ariel related
12/7 – Ariel shot the cover of Charming magazine, Cathy mentioned something about “leaving for New York again,” I think? (Maybe Ariel is on her way?! Haha, me wishful thinking… or rather, hoping for everyone on the East Coast U.S.)

Remember this clip? http://www.wretch.cc/video/cathyliu0819&am...=time_d&p=5
I just rewatched it, and is it Ariel's manager Ariel and the gang are singing Happy Birthday to? Can't really tell, but I *think* it looks like her...

Ariel never fails to touch me with her heart-breaking crying scenes

swim, can't agree with you more on Ariel's future works/roles - and I also need someone to offer her a totally non-manga-adaption drama/ movie!!! The "artistic" type of movies that Ariel loves, if possible. Because even if Ariel's acting is Academy Award level, it would be much more difficult (for both the audience and other directors etc) to notice how good it is if the rest of the film is poor... Although Ariel's past works have been good, she really needs a bigger chance to truly challenge and prove herself.
A bit disappointing about the GHA opening film - ah well, it's more important for her to look out for good, long movies!
Oh, and about the clip from cathy's blog, I think that's Ariel's manager too^^ Haha, she looks very overwhelmed!

I was just listening to a radio programme with Ariel and Dir. Niu - there were some stuff I found interesting (some new, some not so new), so I thought I'll share with you guys :D

1. Dir.Niu had offered Ariel the role of An An in Part 1 of 求婚事務所 (the role Hebe did), but Ariel couldn't manage it because of schedule matters.

2. Dir Niu had always taken an interest in Ariel bc of her entusiasm, attitude and concentration. He recently also realized she was very punctual and serious, but when he looks at her dramas/movies, her characters are very lively. In one work (sorry, can't remember if he said movie or drama...but I get the feeling he's talking about the action movie), the only reason he was able to watch it till the end was because he wanted to see more of her acting.

3. Dr. Niu also thinks her seriousness may be a bit of a pressure for him, and he wants shooting to be a comfortable atmosphere. or something like that...he just meant he didn't want to be all pressurized^^

4. When asked what role he will be playing this time in his own drama, Dir. Niu answers sportily "Fuwa Sho (不和尚) - just joking!"
The people around him want him to play the part of a certain director who is gangster-like, but he's still thinking about it since it's a very different character from him. Actually he might not act this time at all, bc recently he started to think he should concentrate on one thing at a time. (this time, as director)

5. When asked about the other castings, Dir Niu answers "at the moment, my head is full of Yi Chen!"

6. The two leads (Ariel and Jerry) are both talented singing-wise, so Dir. Niu is planning to have them express that aspect of their ability in some way in the drama.

Last of all, Ariel comments that Skip Beat is a story "about life". hmmm, wonder what that means? Sounds like she already has her own interpretation of the story! Good for her^^

It sounds like Dir Niu may try to add some interesting new factors in this manga adaption - but hey director, you better start filming really soon!!

P.S. Dir Niu stressed it was going to be his first girls' manga adaption - but then, what was Hua Yang??? Did he have only a very tiny role as director in that drama (it does seem there were 3 people directing it)? So then, maybe I don't have to worry about forced over-acting and such?? I know his other dramas are great...

Thank you SOOOO much for the radio interview translations! That was really awesome to listen to! Hahaha... that would be hilarious if he played the tyranical director! Everyone loves a good dose of irony and you could fill EC full of it!

Director Nui and Ariel's relationship already seems to be growing and they seem to be getting along well. I love that Ariel has such a high regard for the role of Kyoko. She really makes me feel comfortable in the fact that she's going to play Kyoko beautifully~

Also, I really hope Ariel gets her trip to New York! She seemed to really want to go from the other articles I read! Ah, how I wish I could go to New York!

Oh yeah, Director Nui! You should have told us who really is going to play Sho!!! You're such a tease! <_<

Well, I like Tiffany. Her acting might have gotten a little better since ISwaK, we didn't get to see a wide range of acting from her small role in TKA. I think she'll make sure to do her best!

Xtlover, thanks for the signed pic of Ariel and Joe =) Was it from a fan who got it signed, or was it from a magazine?

Hectic, aww, I figured it was a “New York” shop in Taiwan, but I was still hoping Ariel would get her Christmas NYC break w/ Mama Lin soon. Thanks for the COLOR mag scans… haha, Ariel and Joe remind me a little of the couple in “My Sassy Girl” – their outfits look like school uniforms :D

The cooking show looks fun… seems like Ariel got along really well with the hosts. I don’t think Ariel’s done much “TV cooking” before, but she looks like a professional TV cooking show host (except for the lid thing, haha). What question was the guy host asking Ariel that the female host didn’t know (I think) (the guy host said “li hai!” in response to Ariel’s answer).
Spoiler
Wow, that’s awesome that Ariel’s showing up on mag covers with Joe in S’pore, too! Does that mean LOB will soon be airing in S’pore??

Ayayano, I know what you mean – I loved the ending of Ep. 4, too. It was my fave episode so far… it’s getting more into character development and deeper emotion, rather than just the pure comedy and anime-like effects (the funny parts of LOB are hilarious, but I love subtleties – in both humor and expression, depth and heartfelt emotion).

Ever since I saw Ariel’s NYC short film clip, I’ve wanted to see her in an “artistic” film in which she can really shine. She’s a great idol actress, but some good, challenging projects outside of idol drama will go a long way to helping her become a great *all-around* actress. Besides movies, a TV miniseries (directed by her award-winning TL18 colleague, perhaps?) or a regular TV drama would be a nice change of pace. A stage performance would be an interesting experience, too, especially since Ariel loves musicals and plays (and has been envying Joe his new-found stage experience).

Thanks so much for sharing the radio programme tidbits! So Ariel might have played opposite Vanness in Say Yes Enterprise if she had accepted the role? Hmm, I guess this was around the time she was doing Love Contract (and maybe even some of Secret Garden II). It would have been interesting to see Ariel as a street performer, but I’m glad Dir. Niu and Ariel finally have this chance to work together, especially since Dir. Niu’s been so interested in Ariel and her work. Lol, I bet Dir. Niu was referring to Kung Fu Girls, because the only reason I was able to finish it was because Ariel was in it (though, to be honest, the plot and characters were badly written, so it was near impossible for anyone to really shine).

I don’t think Dir. Niu needs to worry. I think he, Ariel and Jerry will all get along quite well (perhaps an occasional serious discussion over how to do things, but I think they’ll “play” together nicely, hehe). Haha, I like Dir. Niu’s comment (what a tease, though!) when asked about the other casts: “At the moment, my head is full of Yi Chen!”

Ariel and Jerry will both get to sing a little in SB/EC? Sweet :D Perhaps a duet? Lol, wishfully thinking.

I agree, it sounds like Ariel’s already been digging deep and finding meaning in Kyoko’s character and drawing parallels between Kyoko’s life and Ariel’s own life experiences. I can’t waait for filming to start!
(maybe Ariel can make it to NYC first, though? Hmm). Hope you don’t mind me posting your translation over in the SB/EC thread (with credit, of course).

Tiff, I’m thrilled with how into the role of Kyoko Ariel seems to be. It makes me so happy that she told Dir. Niu that she wanted the role of Kyoko no matter what. Perhaps she fell in love with the story and the role of Kyoko after she read the SB manga, like we did :D I knew she wouldn't be able to resist Kyoko's character!

tiffany, no problem^^ It's the least I can do - I always rely so much on what the other kind souls post ^_^*

swim, no problem about reposting it :)
Oh, a duet! How I'd love that :P Or maybe singing *inside* the story as Kyoko...? Then Ariel would have one dream come true - to be able to act as a singer! (or well, an actress who also sings)

It would have been great if Ariel really did manage to get time off to go NYC with her mum, but guess not this Christmas. Until I read the Marie Claire article, I had no idea how much Ariel had gone through this year. It just goes to show how much she deserves all the good things that are happening in her life right now. Hahaa, yes, she really can't hide how much she would love to go back to NYC :D I can totally imagine Ariel answering the question about who she'd like to receive a Christmas greeting from, with that shy but really cute tone of hers x) Yea, hopefully Ariel will get offered some interesting and challenging roles next year. Really curious about how Ariel will portray Kyoko in EC! Haha, Ariel and her mum's relationship sounds really sweet. It's really nice to see celebrities especially, talking about how much they love their family (: Honestly, I was so shocked when I read about those 6 full days of filming. I really admire Ariel for being so strong, I don't think many people in her situation would have coped at all. It broke my heart to hear how she couldn't stop crying in between filming scenes. Oops, I may/may not have mistranslated the part about Paper Rose, because it could mean temporarily or at the last minute ^^;; I hope she'll get the chance to film that in the future but yea, it definitely was a blessing in disguise. 2009 will definitely bring Ariel even more happy memories (:

ayayano
Wow, Dir Niu is able to keep watching a movie just to see Ariel's acting? Sounds like he really admires her :D It's good that the director has a good relationship with the cast, can't wait to see EC!

Thanks for the updates everyone ^_^

Has anyone ever seen 求婚事務所? Based on some clips i've seen, it seems like a dramatic series which might have some depth. I think Ariel would have done great in it.

Ouch! A diss on the Kung Fu movie :D I don't blame him though. And it's interesting how i've heard that many times over. People may not enjoy a project she's in but continue to watch because she's just that damn good.

Awesome way to avoid the question while complimenting our Ariel. Well played indeed haha

Swim, I also wish to see her in something other than an idol drama. I feel like the Taiwanese entertainment world is a very confining box and I really want her to go outside it.

Anyone seen this picture of Ariel yet from her Love Contract days? Her wig looks a little bit curlier than the one she had on in the series.

http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=512211598

Scroll down and check her shoes in an LOB event .... very perceptive of her fans.

Ariel's sked from Cathy's blog
12/4 依晨拍愛女生封面和Mem's Uno內頁
That's actually two photo shoots: Cover for Girl magazine (愛女生) and inside pages of Men's Uno

Angus: Am watching parts of True Love 18. Is Angus (Ling Lung in LOB) the same actress who played Shih Yi-nan's s girlfriend in TL? I think Xiao Zhu mentioned in Entertainment 100% that she changed her name (actually she started out using a screen name but is now using her original/real name). If she is, she looks younger now than she was then. Maybe that's why she seems so close to Ariel (plus the fact that they're in the same company). Their interactions are always so warm and cute. Angus also kept praising Ariel during their Kang Xi Lai Le appearance even after Ariel had left.

Cooking show: That is Hsia Yu-chia (Chiao Chiao/Qiao Qiao) who starred with Xiao Zhong in Magic Ring. I was surprised to learn that she's even younger than Ariel (born 1984) -- and got mercilessly teased by her co-host -- Zhen ?-xiang (can't remember his full name) that she looked older. Funny Ariel, she really wanted to win the Italy-made cooking pan -- that way she wouldn't have to buy a pan anymore for her new home. Figaro looks like a really good cook. He said it's the men who cook in his family. Qiao Qiao said she'd like to marry into this type of family. When her co-host teased her if she's coming on to Figaro, she said the two of them (Figaro and her) used to work under the same agency.

Haha, btzi, you're right - Ariel's so cute when she gets excited because she reeeally wants to win the pan :D Lol, is *that* what the "82" was about?? (the year Ariel was born) Qiao Qiao's younger than Ariel?

Ayayano, thanks for letting me repost =) Lol, that’s actually what I meant – Ariel singing as Kyoko – like a duet with Jerry and Ariel in character (Ren and Kyoko).

Cat
, yeah, I could have sworn last year, Choustar already okay-ed Ariel’s time to take a trip with Mama Lin in NYC this Christmas, but I guess it’s 倒吃甘蔗 again. I love hearing really filial celebs (like Ariel and Jiro!) talk about their parents. Ariel had the six full days of filming, plus the 8 days/nights in a row of filming for the Beggar Clan meeting scene (her birthday fell near the end of the Beggar Clan meeting filming) – Ariel, Hu Ge and Yuan Hong were the 3 who fell into both the day and night filming shifts. A lot of people might have gone insane in the cold on so little sleep, but I think the 3 kept each other going (plus, Ariel’s family visited her in the midst of Beggar Clan filming and near the end of filming – good motivation/encouragement and warm hugs from Mama Lin =) Hmm, okay, so maybe or maybe not Paper Rose next year. I guess it is kinda similar to Skip Beat, as they both involve the entertainment world, though one is acting, the other singing (and the atmosphere of the two is quite different – partially b/c one’s manga-based and the other’s original).

Alyn, I haven’t seen Say Yes Enterprise, but it’s 7 different interconnected stories, right? If Ariel had done it, Jerry would have been the 2nd F4 member she acted with. As it stands, he’s the first =) Say Yes Enterprise did look like it had some depth, and An An’s role sounded interesting. I think I’ll have to watch it now.
Haha, big diss on Kung Fu Girls, but it was… not that good. It reminded me of a badly done Disney movie… maybe like one of the tween movies the Olsen twins made. *cough* I kind of felt the same about Seventh Grade, but maybe that’s because it wasn’t subbed. Ariel and Ah Dan were the two who had me glued to the screen. And actually, Love Me If You Can wasn’t that great, but oh man, Ariel was incredible. She made the whole movie worth watching multiple times (though I don’t think I could make it through a certain part near the end again… I wince everytime I think about it or see even a tiny clip – Ariel was too convincing/realistic - *shudder*)

Btzi, heh, I’ve seen that pic of Ariel from LC days before. I think they gave her a temporary wig for promos or something, lol.
Whoa! Those are some observant fans! Can’t believe Ariel has the same boots still – and they still look brand new! I guess it’s possible that she found the same style again, but I think it’s more likely that it’s the exact same pair, because Ariel tries to keep her shoes in near-mint condition. Heh, I wonder if that’s the first time since the LC promo that she’s worn those shoes?

Sweet, we get to see Ariel in more mags. Wonder if both Girl magazine and Men’s Uno are solo shots. I love seeing all of her mag shots with Joe and Jerry, but I miss seeing her solo shots, too. Shucks that she’s not doing the cover for Men’s Uno, but I’m happy she’s doing a few pages. They’ve done some really nice shots of her. I love the old-fashioned pink/brown dress shot that used to be alyn’s avie.

Keke, yes, Angus in LOB is the very same gf in TL18. She and Ariel have known each other for a long time. I think Ariel’s mentioned before how Angus was like her shi jie when she started in TL18.
Spoiler
I love watching Angus’s and Ariel’s interactions – they’re like sisters who actually get along well, haha. Angus was so sweet to keep praising Ariel – she kept commenting on how gorgeous Ariel’s skin is, etc etc. A lot of the Choustar peeps are friends outside of work, but Angus, Rui Jia, Figaro and the one other shi mei (can NEVER remember her name) are the ones I’ve seen hanging out with Ariel the most outside of work. (plus, of course, Ariel’s assistant and Cathy, Choustar’s assistant).

Was there a “theme” to the cooking show? (make something with eggs in it?) I guess Ariel’s dish was a poached egg with ham on a bagel with hollandaise sauce and seasoned veggies?

I will reupload to youtube after work as my office block youtube.

Regarding the mag that I bought, it was imported from malaysia.
So I dont think S'pore will be showing anytime soon especially
they have only just started showing Miss No Good. :crying:

Qiao Qiao is born in 84.
The first half I think is to cook the dish they know best
while the second half is 可乐饼 (Japanese Croquettes??)

Ariel will be on TVBS-G 《大明星小跟班》 13 Dec.

Cooking show: I think the theme for the first part was making their specialty. For the second one they have to make the same thing - Japanese croquette. When I first heard "ke le ping" I thought it was supposed to be crepe until I finally saw the finished product and realized it was croquette. Crepe is "ke li ping" (me and my lousy Chinese).

Zeng Guocheng (hahaha ... i suddenly remembered his full name, i hope it remembered it right though) and Ariel's interactions were quite funny, although sometimes a little bit too suggestive. He started out by greeting the "drama queen" (i don't really know how to translate "ying ho" coz "ying" always makes me think of "movies/film") with "I heard you're an amazingly good kisser" but I was surprised at how good Ariel was at playing along or fending off his comments. She answered quickly with "let's cook, let's cook" ... "we're here to talk about kitchen [stuffs], not bedroom." She was bright, lively and laughing throughout the show -- well mostly, i think she was quite apprehensive when presented with the second challenge of making croquettes and was pondering what to do while Figaro and Qiao Qiao got right down to it with gusto.

Hmm, on the second half of the cooking show, the “Japanese croquettes” looked tough. The two (Ariel and Figaro) seemed to get a lot more help from their partners in the second “contest”… I guess because it was a surprise challenge, rather than just making a personal favorite recipe. Lol, I don’t know if I’d want to try their second recipes… they seemed to be thrown together kind of haphazardly :P It was definitely fun/funny to watch, though. (The guy chefs were definitely helping Ariel more, lol.) Ariel and the guy host’s wicked mwahahaha-ing at the end of the second contest was great :D I really like Ariel’s outfit on the show, too – it looks very clean-cut, chic and neat – plus, it’s functional.

Hahaha, did anyone notice that mysoju already has “Extravagant Challenge” up under TW dramas with the message “episodes coming soon!” Umm, filming hasn’t even started yet…

Hectic, thanks for the info on Ariel being on TVBS-G! Hehe, it’s back to her old home. What’s the show, though? I don’t think I’ve heard of it (then again, I can’t make much sense of the characters).
Spoiler

Btzi, LOL! I love Ariel’s response to the male host’s kinda suggestive comment about kissing :buahaha Clever woman. I thought Ariel seemed really “high” throughout the show, too – it was fun to see her laughing, cooking, bantering so much, etc (though she was a bit contemplative/anxious about what to do for the croquettes in the second challenge).

I like that Ariel is cautious.

Anyway, I guess that means no official release of Ariel’s “Taste of Bread” (or Babyface’s “If I could” and Wen Xing’s opening theme)… oh man =( Hope GTV changes their mind about releasing the OST… I’m definitely buying it if it ever comes out.
http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=512654431

There was an article out today of the TV stations putting up emoticons online for people to use, promoting their series… LOB is one of these series, so there are Shan Mei emoticons available on GTV website, maybe? The article also said that while the emoticons are designed based on Ariel and Joe, the real Ariel is someone who prefers to handwrite to people when she can, rather than use e-mail/chat (though she does use SMS when she’s on the go).

Swim, there are subs for SYE? I remember looking long ago and not coming up with anything. I'll have to search as I would love to see Mike's story.
Heh, that's why I said I don't blame him for the diss. KFG was...well, it just was :D

I wonder if we'll ever get Seventh Grade subbed. I absolutely loved her with Ah Dan and that was without understanding a word! It's such a shame he doesn't appear to act anymore because I would absolutely adore another collaboration between them.
