HEy! I'm crazy about their song "Yuhja E Ni GGah" or popularly known as "Because I'm A Girl". I even downloaded the MTV, mp3 ang midi of it. And would you believe that it is also the ringtone that I use in my celfone!

Anyways, if I have the time I'll post some screencaps of that MTV. So nice MTV. It's my favorite actually. Do I sound redundant now?

Just for this time, I'll just post the lyrics of Because I'm A Girl

Here's the translation in English:

I just cant understand the hearts of men
They tell you they want you and then they leave you
This is the first time, you're special
I believed those words and I was so happy
You should have told me you didn't like me any more
But I couldn't see that and you just rushed me
Although I will curse you I'll still miss you
Since I am a girl, to whom love is everything
I heard that if you give up things too easily
To a man, he will get bored with you
I don't think this is wrong
A girl says that she will never be fooled again
But she will fall in love again
You should have told me you didn't like me any more
But I couldn't see that and you just rushed me
Although I will curse you I'll still miss you
Since I am a girl, to whom love is everything
Hey babe
The pain
It's not enough to describe how i feel
We were so happy together
But I know now
I've been blind
You told me that you'd never let me down
Whenever I needed you you'd always be here
I can forgive but I cant forget
Even though you hurt me
I still love you
I still love you
Don't take advantage of a girl's willingness to do anything for love
And her caring instinct
I didn't know that to be born as a girl and to be loved was so hard
Although i will curse you i'll still miss you
Since i am a girl, to whom love is everything
Although i will curse you i'll still miss you
Since i am a girl, to whom love is everything

There's already a Filipino version of "Because I'm A Girl". Have you heard it? It's not the direct translation though but they only use the music and then the lyrics is entirely different from the original. I say that the rendition of the girls (sorry, don't know their band name) who sung the Filipino version of it doesn't give any justice to the original Korean version. There's no feelings. They just sing it but don't feel it it at all. In summation, it's damnation bad!!! Kiss version is the best... :worship

I don't get why that song "because I'm a girl" is so popular. I personally don't like that song at all.

I love "Because I'm A Girl"... that was the song that sucked me into kpop.... i think the main reason that song is so popular is because of its heart touching video... u can almost feel the tear start falling when watchin the video.. ehhee

It's time to meet the woman behind these names...

[ THE STORY ]

Lee Ji Yeon was born on April 29, 1982 in Dae Gu, South Korea. At two months of age, her parents passed away in a car accident while she waited for them at her grandmother's house. Ji Yeon was taken in by her grandmother and lived in an extremely poor section of Dae Gu until she was five years old. The young girl did not even get to experience the basic living amenities in a home, without running water or electricity. Ji Yeon's grandmother, realizing that this was no life for a child, decided to give her up for adoption with the hope that she could find a better life with a loving family. Again Ji Yeon was separated from those she loved, and she was placed at Holt Christian Adoption Center in Seoul, Korea.

Ji Yeon went through seven different foster homes in the span of about one month, not willing to grow close to anyone else for fear of losing them, as she lost the others she had loved. At this point she was tired of the process and told the adoption center she would rather stay at the dorm there instead of going to any more foster families. There she stayed with around 200 other children who were waiting for their own chance at adoption. Ji Yeon still held hope of seeing her grandmother again, which she had been told she would.

One day, a large celebration was held, as was the tradition at the center when a child was adopted. Ji Yeon, not realizing that it was her turn, just behaved normally and ate all the food she wanted. Then she heard the announcement that she was the one who would be leaving. A woman who had visited the center earlier and paid special attention to Ji Yeon had returned to adopt her.

She stayed with the woman for approximately four months, after which they left to visit the woman's sister in Chicago. After a month there, they headed to Ohio, where the woman was greeted by a Caucasian man. Ji Yeon was surprised, as she had no prior contact with anyone but Koreans. The couple brought her to the upper middle class suburban community of Westerville, where she got her first glimpse of her new home. She was shocked to know she'd be living in such a large house. Although the house was of average size, to Ji Yeon it was a castle. She realized that this was her new family.

Ji Yeon couldn't contain her excitement during her first night in her home, and spent the night singing. This was the birth of her newfound love for singing. Ji Yeon could not attend school as of yet, and her mother home schooled her in English and math until she was ready to go to first grade. Throughout the year, Theresa, as she was now called, learned English from a tutor and by second grade; she was gradually forgetting the Korean language.

Piano lessons had become a part of Theresa's life at this point, and her instructor told her she had quite a bit of musical talent. At age seven, she had played Fur Elise for her teacher by ear. Participating in the school choir, continuing piano lessons, and starting viola when she was 10, Theresa wanted to go further with her music. She started to write short poems and a journal when she was eight years old, and used it as her outlet for whatever emotions she was going through. Her feelings became poems, and eventually, songs.

Theresa auditioned for a school talent show in fifth grade, and was accepted, doing two acts for the show. One of her acts was singing and dancing to a Donna Summer song. The school was impressed and Theresa was asked to participate in a showcase for the entire school. At this point, she knew she wanted to be a performer. She continued to take part in various contests and competitions for voice, piano, and viola. It was an escape for her from the pressures of being one of the few Asians in the area. But despite her achievements, she was still criticized and received many cruel racial remarks. Theresa started to prefer being seen with her father, thinking that his skin color would help her fit in. However, this raised even more questions about why she was Asian. She didn't explain her adoption, knowing that it would not help her already harsh situation.

Songwriting began for Theresa at 12, and she started to produce songs when she was 13, coming up with music on the piano for a melody she'd made. Her love for singing and performing was such a large part of her life that she secretly practiced at home with a microphone and stand she had borrowed from her choir director. Her parents as of yet still had no idea that this was her dream.

Theresa entered a karaoke contest at the age of 14. There were various record company recruiters present, and she received an offer. After finding the courage to tell her parents, she was simply met with laughter, especially from her mother, who for years had constantly been telling her she was ugly and that she would not accomplish anything. Her parents had never heard her sing, and not knowing her true passion for music, had assumed it was just another childish fantasy. She was not allowed to sign with the company. (Note: If Theresa had signed with the company, she would most likely have debuted before Britney Spears.)

Korean music came into Theresa's life when she was 16. She decided she wanted to start in Korea and make her way into the American music industry afterwards. She set this goal, and was determined to achieve it. She got in contact with Brothers Entertainment, who also discovered various members of Korean groups such as H.O.T, Shinhwa, and Fly to the Sky. They responded quickly, but their timeline was too long for Theresa, as she wanted to start a career sooner than they were planning for her. She again nervously told her parents, who told her to focus on school instead. Frustrated, Theresa told Brothers Entertainment that she was not allowed and that she would contact them again later on.

This was the hardest year of Theresa's life. One of Theresa's friends committed suicide. Through her depression, Theresa wanted to follow. Her parents then divorced, and her mother, who suffers from various psychological disorders, blamed it on Theresa. The stress was building on her too fast, and her life started to fall apart. Her grades fell, she skipped school, and her relationship with her father, who she was living with, started to deteriorate. Music even lost a part in her life. After considering suicide, she finally attempted it, and fortunately failed. Theresa realized this would be extremely selfish of her. One day, she heard the song "Hero" by Mariah Carey playing on the radio, and started to cry. She realized she had a calling, and she couldn't give up on her music. She told herself she would not give up until she had met every single one of her goals.

After Theresa turned 18, now free to do as she wished, she contacted Brothers Entertainment again, but after a year, went to Ark Entertainment instead. She was also online trying to gain advice from others as well as asking what people would like to see in a singer. By the summer of 2001, she was in Korea as the lead singer of KISS, and debuted in early 2002. Her first goal had been achieved. It was more difficult than Theresa had imagined, but she gave her everything to every performance. However, because of personal issues and a company decision, the group separated in March of 2002 and Theresa was left in the company by herself. But through keeping in touch with supporters from the States, she was given hope.

Theresa went back to the States to rest, disappointed but determined not to let it discourage her. She was also upset at not being able to do enough for her family, friends, supporters, and mostly her own dreams. Now back home, things were still hard. Many people who had never given a second look were now trying to be friends with her. But life in States took a turn for the better when Internet supporters helped her to win the "Last Fan Standing Contest" at MTV and was able to present the Viewers' Choice award at the 2002 VMAs. She felt grateful to her fans, and though her words of gratitude were not aired properly, she tried her best to express her thanks.

But in 2003, four days before she was to return to Korea, Theresa was in a serious car accident that would change her outlook on life. Thinking back on what happened that night, Theresa would probably have died, but walked away with only minor injuries. She felt that she had been given a second chance at life, and she needed to value this gift. The fragility of life became more apparent to her now more than ever, and she would never give up on her dreams. The little things are more important now, and she thanks God for every day she is given. Along with a miracle, Theresa was granted a new beginning.

[ THE ALBUM ]

1) What are you currently doing in terms of preparing for your upcoming solo album?

Right now, J-Entercom's head producer Choi, Joon-Young is having me write as many songs as possible, record guide versions, and produce them as well. Basically, they wanted to see if I could actually put a whole song together, without any help from them. (This doesn't include the two songs in contention for my title). Right now, not including the 3 songs that J-Ent wrote/produced... I have written and produced about 14 songs thus far...(a few of them have been previous projects I never got around to). J-Entercom wants me to write/produce about 20 - 25 songs, then we can start balancing out which ones may appear, or be cut from the solo album.

2) What style of music will your album be?

Can't really answer this in detail...but there's a variety of styles that I'm writing. I've been influenced by every kind of music- hip-hop/rock/r&b/pop/euro... All genres have been recorded thus far. Most of my music writing now a days are personal, dark... about my life... things that people may not expect from me. 3 songs I wrote/produced are straight up hip-hop/rap... no singing -- with the exception of chorus/harmony. Many people may mistake my "pop" rap as showed in K.I.S.S' 1st album... but these 3 songs are totally different...I basically sound like an angry Korean-American through out the songs... ^_^. A few of the songs are Nirvana/Linkin Park influenced guitar sounds intertwined with Pop/R&B and a touch of soul for vocals.

I really hope and pray that most, if not all... of the songs I write/produce end up on this solo effort... I've definitely put my all in writing the lyrics... and I definitely believe people can relate to a lot of the subjects I sang about.

3) Will you be remixing/rerecording any former KISS songs to put onto the album?

At this point... a lot of my fellow supporters, or random email senders... really wanted to have "Because I'm A Girl" on the album, the English version. I've recorded a guide version (mainly for the fans who didn't speak Korean)... but when you try to translate a deep and meaningful Korean song into English... it looses the juice. Although I tried my hardest to translate it as best as I could to make sense in English, it still didn't have an emotional effect when I sing it... as the Original Korean version did.

J-Entercom is also thinking about sticking "without u" on my solo album... I'm a little hesitant... most of the songs I'm writing now are dark... and basically disses guys left and right (LoL)... I don't know... this song may or may not end up on the solo album.

4) How much of your album do you expect to write and produce yourself?

Well, since they're having me write/produce at this point for 'practice'... I'm really hoping 95% of my songs will be on the album... ::: crosses fingers :::

5) Are there any other artists who are helping you with your album or collaborating with you?

There are no big name collaborations at this time... then again, things can always change half a year from now. I can say, I have sent a song to a producer (I've already completed the music and all), but I wanted to see what this person could come up with... and if I like it, their version may end up on the album.

6) When is the projected release date for your album?

2004. ^_^ Gotta keep everyone guessing... hehe.

[ JINI SAYS ]

1) How does it feel to know that you will be going solo?

Bitter sweet... kind of a double-edged sword. During my time with K.I.S.S, there were a lot of hard times I had to endure... and in the end, a complicated situation arose with my two former members, and my company... and they were released. I have no regrets, however, because I believe everything happens for a reason. Ah, to answer your question... I'm feeling very confident about going solo... then again, I know I'll be a nervous wreck for my debut... because I'll be up there all by myself.

2) Was your original goal to go solo or to be a part of a group?

I've always wanted to be solo... I'm very "in control" of what I like to sing and how I want to sing... Being a part of the group the first time around gave me enough experience and confidence to know I can for SURE do it on my own.

3) What is your personal music style?

Listening wise: HipHop/Rap, R&B, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Pop, Dance.
Singing wise: all of the above. ^_^

4) Who are your favorite artists?

Eminem, Michael and Janet Jackson, Madonna, Britney, XTina, Usher, Alicia Keys, TLC.

5) Who is the musician that you respect most?

I respect each and every singer/songwriter/entertainer out there... they're all doing what they love to do... and sharing it with the world.

I respect Eminem, Britney and Xtina the most... for constantly overcoming obstacles from people scrutinizing their every move... I commend them for being exceptionally great at what they do, and not give a flying poopy-ball of what anyone says.

6) Who are some singers that you are friends with?

I won't name all... here's a few though...

Annie (tashannie), As One, 1tym -YG Family (with the exception of Lexy, Masta Wu, and Swi-T... never met em b4...), 5-Tion, NRG (mostly Myung-Hoon), TTMA's former member: Queena, Milk's YuMi, BaBy VoX's EZ, EunJin.

7) When do you plan on starting to prepare for an album in the States?

hehehe. I wanna say... NOW... LoL, but I'll keep it as "No Comment"

8) What is the main thing that drives you?

Every time something really crappy happens... something unbelievably amazing happens after it (this has been a never-ending cycle for 21 years...). My own ambition to succeed drives me, the faith that my supporters (the few I have... hehe) have in me drives me... The dramatic life I've lived so far drives me, My interest in sharing all my personal endeavors through my music to connect with my supports drive me, and without a doubt... anyone and everyone who doubts, or doesn't give me a chance... and the ones who are haterz... THEY drive me.

[ THE FANS ]

1) Name something a fan did for you that you especially appreciated.

This past April (my birthday)... a supporter sent a huge envelope ( i figured it would be from my friend/family member back home). I open it up to find 3 HUGE Eminem posters, one notebook size glossy pic of him, and an issue of a magazine with Eminem on the cover. I was in utter shock... I was like O_O then I felt sad... =( Then inside the birthday card... was a few magazine pics (while I was with KiSS)... and all she wanted back was me to sign that pic. How could I deny it!

I didn't get to send this person a letter and the pic back til last week. [from emails to snail mail.. I usually take forever, but I get back at em...)

2) What are some of your favorite things to hear from fans?

Having them know and acknowledge I do try to keep a very close-bond with each and every one of them. Pssst... it doesn't hurt to hear advice and feedback from them about certain songs... ^_^

3) Why do you feel that fans are important?

I was and still am a huge "fan" of music.. I know what it's like to 'want' to have some sort of connection with someone I look up to. Now that I do have a small base of supporters, I completely try my hardest to be involved with any and every lil internet club possible. ^_^ I go to THEM for feedback, and for their opinions... because it matters to me.

4) Your personal message to the fans at soompi:

To those ... who remember back from '98... I've been at this forum for ages... since the beginning basically. I never really posted until about '99 ish... asking advice from fellow peers and letting you all know about my goals.

Since then, I have not left... Does anyone remember my looooong post back in '99? I believe when someone asked 'why' I was doing what I was doing... I stated something along the lines of "I want to be a singer who keeps in touch with their fans, and partake in internet activities - forums -... and not just someone who sends auto emails, or never responds at least once."

Bah, I don't think anyone remembers, but I remember I did in fact say something like that back in the day. Guess what? I have kept my word. =)

I have not left... I am still here... I may not post a bunch, but trust me... I do read as frequently as I can. The dedication I have to the supporters... is second to none.

From the beginning... I stirred up a lot of 'heated' arguments... they've died down... and hopefully, it's because my fellow peers realize I am no different than anyone. This job just requires a few TV appearances... it's nothing different than a student/doctor/server...etc.

All in all... this has been my 'home' for 5 years... and I will continue to come here for God knows how long. O_o ::: pictures myself sitting at the computer at age 90 fighting with my grandkids over who gets to be on Soompi ::: hehe.

Thank you, Soomp for bein my home forever... Thank you Supporters at soompi for never doubting me... Thank you Haterz... You've only fueled my ambition to succeed even more... Thank You Soompi members... This is the most uniquely, diverse group of people on ANY forum I've been to.

Soompi Rocks.
