Oprah Winfrey is preparing to quit her long-running talkshow at the end of the 2010-11 season.

The 55-year-old host, who will have completed 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show, is expected to announce the news live on tomorrow's edition.

A spokesperson for CBS today confirmed Winfrey's departure and praised her for her hard work over the years.

"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success.

"We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

Winfrey's first television gig was host of WLS-TV's low-rated half-hour morning talk-show, AM Chicago. Shortly after she took over, the show became the highest rated talk show in the city and was subsequently renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show.

no way! what will she do??? i like her talk shows (ones that doesn't have the people she introduce be bad eggs that is) but other then that i guess i have to wish her well...she so rich anyway, she can afford to retire twice over

I admire Oprah Winfrey and what she has done for talkshows and her community. Having already been on for 25 seasons, all things must eventually come to an end.... I'll miss watching her show.

Well she had a great run.. made billions of dollars... and she still has all those other projects, like the Rachel Ray show, Dr. Phil, the magazine...etc.... She'll find something to keep her busy! Or she could take all that money she has and go on vacation for the rest of her life!

Its sad to hear that Oprah is now signing off. Oprah is already an institution in talk show that's why millions of viewers are terribly emotional.
