Autumn’s Concerto struggles to hold its ratings

The hit drama aired its "rumored-to-be" second-to-last episode this past Sunday, but it failed to top its series-high ratings from the previous week. Autumn’s Concerto received an average rating of 7.67% and a highest interval rating of 8.12% on February 7th. Jerry Yan and Ella Chen’s Down With Love continued to improve from last week ratings with 3.37%. It is expected to take over the number one spot after Autumn’s Concerto goes off the air, as the next SETTV drama P.S. Man doesn’t appear to be strong competition at this point. Because of You managed to lose over half of its ratings from last week and ended up with 0.44%. Anyone that has actually watched this drama shouldn't be too surprised. Its leading ladies were so wrongfully miscast that there is really nothing can be done to save it.

Fans are sure to be disappointed as they were hoping Autumn’s Concerto to match the all-time highest ratings from Fated to Love You. The Ethan Ruan/Joe Chen drama set the record back in 2008 with an average rating of 10.91% and a highest interval rating of 13.64% on episode 20. Autumn’s Concerto still has a shot (although a slim one) at the record, but for sure that won’t happen this weekend. The drama will be preempted for the Diamond Club Chinese New Year special on February 14th, which is scheduled to air from 8 – 12 PM. Instead of the Ady An/Van Ness Wu on-screen couple, we will have to make do with the Li Jing/Huang Kuo-Lun pair on this Sunday.

SETTV offered a look at the behind scenes of Autumn’s Concerto after episode 19 featuring interviews and outtakes. They have also started a poll on the SETTV Autumn’s Concerto blog for viewers to vote on who actually “killed” the character Fang Ge from the last episode. For those who haven’t watched episode 19 yet, Fang Ge was not technically “killed” as he is still lying in the hospital half-dead. Hua Tuo-Ye, played by Chris Wu, insisted that he had kill Fang Ge in order to protect Hua Ci-Xin.

well actually i think episode 19 was pretty good, i guess people don't like seeing GX and MC breaking up and this was such a heart breaking episode too, plus there weren't many scenes of GX and MC. but seriously, not every episode have to revolved around the main leads, they need room for other characters too.
i guess Taiwanese don't like seeing sad stuffs lol, but i can totally understand that cause ever since i started watching Autumn's concerto, all i want to see is the scenes b/w GX&MC or GX MC and XL lol

I would say who cares about ratings now. Whats best and matters is the series itself. If people love it, they love it. Ratings can't compare. But too bad it will be ending soon.

They compare AC with every series that comes out and compete with it because this series is the best now. I am sure DWL will take first place after AC but AC is still my TW best series. As for breaking FTYL record they could have if they had extended the eps of AC too.

I guess everyone was shocked with the rating for AC to drop. They still have a chance w/ the remaining ep.

aww..if only internet viewership counted as well. every single person i know who watches taiwanese dramas is watching AC. even people who don't usually watch tw dramas is watching AC to see what all the hype is about.

hmm..for overseas viewers like me, we can't really control the ratings,can we? to me AC is the best TW drama so far.like the storyline very much.

i agree with the posters above. if the oversea counts im sure AC rating will be very high. i am an oversea myself. usually i dont watch taiwanese drama but since everyone is talking about it so i tuned it and boy i got addicted by the first 10 mins of the ep.

Yeah... episode 19 is really intense, based on the two part subs I've seen so far.

But I feel that the last episode (assuming it'll run the usual hour and a half) isn't enough to cover the story... unless TTV/SETTV is planning on showing AC for two full hours in the final episode (excluding commercials). hehe

One episode left and we are reaching the "last stop" soon...Seriously,I hope the last episode will break 10 cos it's one of the best TW dramas which I have watched so far.If the last episode breaks 10,we will be able to see the family reunite(cos Ady said she will be dancing pole dance,Vanness and Xiao Xiao Bin will be her dance poles.)

Agree.I also think that there's not enough time to cover the story unless they cut the scenes and rush to finish everything or extend the showing time of the last episode.

i think they are giving us a good fight!i haven't watched DWL but i'm sure it's really good.i still don't have time to watch it.

geez. I liked FTTY, but i thought AC was better. I like how they handle it more maturely.. none of those corny scenes.

I agree that Autumn's Concerto is the Best TW drama so far.. The storyline is great.. I'm totally addicted to it after watching the 1st episode.. Every Sunday, i will always be waiting for its new episode to be released..

Unfortunately, only those in Taiwan can vote for the ratings.. I'm sure that if those in overseas like me can vote, the ratings will definitely be higher.. So far nearly all the people i know are watching and following this drama .. Even those people that i know who do not really watch TW drama previously, are also watching this drama..

It's a sad thing that this drama is coming to an end soon.. Personally, i hope that this drama will have more than 20 episode.. I just love watching Van Ness and Ady together..

I'm sure that if there are more episodes too, this drama would be able to break the ratings of FTLY.. But, if episode 20 is really the last one, i hope tat it will break FTLY ratings..

well, i haven't started this drama actually, i only watched several episodes, but it's really nice! the story itself is nice and we have a lot to learn from it.. plus the casts were all good.. it's not all about the ratings now, it's all about the story. the first time i see the picture of the drama and read the synopsis, i told myself i really should watch this, plus this is the first time that i'll see vanness to act in the drama as a lead actor. not like in Meteor Garden, it's always, jerry or vic.. as with the polls, well jerry yan has lots of fans, especially in acting, DWL is not the first drama of jerry yan. i suppose we should give vanness a credit for this, this is his first drama, as the lead actor, and even Ady An.. but anyways, they're a great couple on screen, and even off screen, they're really good! but of course i still do hope that Autumn Concerto will receive a high rating for episode 20.. the story not only about, love or romance. but i think it's all about family and being mature also.. so keep it up! i hope to see vanness and ady ann making another drama after this..

and lastly, as for vanness, he's hotter than ever! if only i can read mandarin, i think i was able to vote for him.. go go go vanness!!

Anyway... I would hardly call 7.67 a disappointment! I mean, consider the 0.44 for the new CTS one. Just because it doesn't improve upon itself doesn't mean it's a disaster. I don't think anything AC does from now on can really mar what it's already accomplished. Clearly, the fans are speaking week after week!

I agree that DWL should move easily into 1st after AC is done and congrats to them on a 3.37 in only the 2nd week! I think now is an exciting time for the idol drama time slot because for a year or two now, there's only been one heavily dominant drama and all others under 1.00. Now there are two dramas easily clearing the 3 and 4 range, so that's really exciting!!

I actually little bit disappointed with the episode 19's rating. I really wish that AC can beat FTLY's record (although I love FTLY's and ethan ruan as well ^^!). But after seeing van ness in AC, I just love him more!

Anyway, what we can do to boost the rating for episode 20? Sincerely, I hope that I can see more sweet loving scene from GX and MC and XL! I think they better show the happy scene teaser to attract viewer! Because all the teaser for episode 20 still so depressing for me. HAixs, although duo yue told GX about the reason why mu cheng left him 6 years ago. Welll, i really want to see GX run to MC and say sorry or say I love you, etc! If i read from the novel. With regards to AC, the ratings doesnt really matter to me. The drama have very good storyline and awesomely made. The casts are also superb. I know many have high expectations on AC, but why dont we just enjoy the remaining episode and celebrate with them on a job well done! 下一站幸福 Jia you..

Don't understand why media is comparing Vaness drama AC and Jerry DWL only because they are both F4. okay both are lawer in the drama but story of both drama is totally different and feeling also.
AC is more sad love story drama, where u can cry already in 1-2episode because of girls background with evil step father/uncle.
DWL is a comical/fun drama story, where u love more than cry.
So both dramas have their strong and weak points and it depends on watchers if you like sad love story with happy ending or fun love drama.

Frankly i just wish that the producers won't be so greedy, and keep extending AC.
I think the ratings for AC will be MUCH better if they don't drag it out with all those unnecessary scenes.
If i'm watching in taiwan, and it's showing a scene which the main characters are uninvolved (anything to do with tuo ye, hua tian village, hua chi xin etc.), I will definitely switch to Down with Love, which has much better pacing!

I don't think AC rating struggles because of DWL. A lot viewers said they don't dare to watch EP19 coz they don't wanna see MC and GX apart again, they can't take more misunderstanding btw GX and MC.

as a lot viewers said AC is "friend-telling-friend" drama. Promo activities is almost zero, no rumours btw leading actor and actress although Vanness and Ady's chemistry is crazy amazing, only 2 small celebration events when AC broke high rating.. this is the most low-profile drama i've ever seen. lol ,
Although i'm pretty sad with Ep 19's rating but 7.67 is still very good indeed. Hope Ep20 can break higher rating... i wanna see Vanness , Ady and Xiao Xiao Bin together so much. I will miss this drama when it ends

to me AC is the best taiwanese drama ever!.. before AC... I had stopped watching taiwanese drama for almost 2 years.. but AC got me addicted after the first 5 minutes of the very first episode..

I guess it's because FTLY is a combo of romance, drama, and comedy whereas AC is mainly just drama. I usually like my dramas to have a combo of some humor and drama mix =)

I agreed. I've given up on taiwan series and only download this one because my girlfriend LOVES Van ness and I wanted to share it with her. Low and behold, I started watching and couldn't stop. I kept raving how great this series is and got my whole family hooked on it.. It's one of these series that you watched and realized it's very good which is why the rating is high!!!!
