Jerry Yan beats Van Ness Wu for the best idol actor overnight

Yahoo Kimo recently held a poll to let fans vote on who they think is the best idol actor. Although Down with Love is behind Autumn’s Concerto in the ratings, Jerry Yan managed to come back with over 10,000 votes overnight to win over fellow F4 Van Ness Wu. Despite their votes being pretty even through out the week, Jerry Yan claimed victory in the end and was crown the best actor among idols.

The poll titled “Who do you think is the idol with the best acting” took place between February 2nd to the 8th, and tallied 171,504 votes in total. Jerry Yan was first place with 30.8%, Van Ness Wu and Vic Chou received 26% and 14.9% respectively, Show Luo was fourth with 7.9%, while Ming Dao was fifth with 5.9%.

Jerry Yan is currently in Japan and wanted to thank everyone who had voted for him. His manager Fenny said, “Because Jerry has always played cool rich boys in the past, there were less depth and change (in his characters). This time is different from before. He has great interaction with Ella that resulted in a lot of chemistry. The two would always discuss with the director to add more things to the drama. Jerry is very thankful to Ella.”

Van Ness Wu was pleased that F4 was recognized for their acting, “This is a very big encouragement for me, I am happy.” Meanwhile, Vic Chou’s manager responded on his behalf, “Thank you for everyone’s support. We have remained focused on acting, and make good dramas for everyone to watch.” Both Autumn’s Concerto and Down With Love will take a break this Sunday, they will be preempted to make way for the Chinese New Year specials on their respective networks.

lol well duh...of course Jerry has to win cause he has been in idol drama for such a long time, plus he has a hugh fan base. as for Van, he's new and just gain fame from Autumn's Concerto recently.
honestly, among F4, i think Vic has the most potential, he can goes from drama to movies, while Jerry is just the same old him after so many years, same acting style same hair lol wonder how long he can stay young to play in idol drama.

Jerry is more of the actor image where Van Ness was the singer image. I would say Van Ness started out acting now, in AC. As for his past series he was only a friend you know. Except Peach Girl and that was years ago. Other than that Van Ness didn't even really act. Jerry and Vic are the ones that acted a lot more. And to be honest, I think Jerry isn't even much of a good actor. He plays the same roles and never breaks through into something new. No hard feelings on Jerry though. I like F4 of course but just my opinion on Jerry. I would say, if Van Ness was to keep acting ever since he started, he would probably even beat Jerry.

but they were comparing actor, and Show is more a singer than an actor, plus he hasn't been that much in drama even though he's such a good actor. i'm sure if Jerry vs. Show as singer, Show sure will wins w/ lots of votes, no offends to Jerry's fans cause Jerry is more like an idol actor than a singer cause IMO his singing isn't good.

Jerry has always provoke the most jealousies, from way back in 2001 till now. Until even his hairstyle is picked on. Too bad he's still the top highest paying actor in Taiwan till now and still very much in demand and for those who wants their idol to dethrone him, pray hard that your idol work more harder and has more talent than Jerry Yan.

Go, Jerry. go. . Not only are your drama serial doing well and selling well but so are your albums. Good achievements in both fields . You have outlast all your detractors from 2001 and you will outlast them for many years to come.

I feel like Van Ness' acting is much better than Jerry's though. Jerry tends to play the same roles a lot and from his past dramas I felt that he doesn't show his emotions very much...unlike some of the actors in the list like Show and Van Ness. I hope he has changed in Down With Love.

CTV and GTV’s idol drama – [Down With Love] has clinched the champion spot for cable television ratings, and this has let male and female leads – Jerry and Ella to be very happy. As Jerry is currently in Japan, he shared via his manager, “Thank you to everyone for their support.” On the other hand, when Ella, the female lead who was busy at work, learnt that the viewership ratings has exceeded NT$100,000, she expressed via her record company that she will pledge a donation of NT$100,000 to The Child Welfare League Foundation and she will also, “Donate another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 5, and pledge another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 7.”

Ella said, “My role in the serial is as a nanny and I feel that young children need a lot of care and concern to grow up happily. I hope that every adult can also give their love and patience so that these young children can grow up healthily.”

In the debut episode of [DWL] last week, the scene where Ella and her elder sister Xiao Xian knelt down yielded good results. The day before, when Ella accidentally broke Jerry’s favourite sculpture, David and he realized something was amiss despite her attempts to disguise it. She knelt for forgiveness before Jerry again and the viewership ratings soared to 6.13. Jerry’s acting performance in the serial has won praises from the audience. Not only have netizens offered praises for his improvement, in a recent poll in Yahoo! for “Who is your favourite idol with good acting”, Jerry beat Vanness to clinch the top spot with 53154 votes compared to 44544 votes, to become the idol with the best acting performances in the hearts of audiences. In response to this, Jerry who is in Japan now said, “Thank you to those who have voted for me. Let us strive on to improve together.”

Jerry's the more popular actor among F4, so this isn't surprising. lol
Van Ness kind of sky rocketed because of AC, but as for fan base... I don't think he has that much props as Jerry.

I like Van Ness' acting better, though.
Over the years, Jerry hasn't improved on his facial expressions, at least to me.
Every time he talks, he looks like he'll burst out laughing.
Never liked his acting style since MG... even if Vic was kind of stiff then, he's more amusing to watch.

and how can they even say Jerry plays the same role over and over again,
honestly, he's been in dramas for years, but he's so picky he only picks a handful among the gazillions that's been offered to him.
for those who's saying he's playing in the same roles, gosh guys, you haven't seen him play anything besides Meteor Garden?
he played:

a DOCTOR in a SERIOUS, heavy drama- The Hospital
a basketball player in- Hot Shot
a pianist in- Starlit
a lawyer in- Down with love

once you saw him crying and emo in TH and Starlit, you wouldnt say he plays the same thing over again
some people just want to comment without knowing everything
he deserves getting recognized for his acting skills, too bad, Japan is faster at recognizing him than Taiwan

They're good in the eyes of their own fans. 'Couldnt care less about this polls. The ones who win doesnt always necessarily means he's a better actor than the others. Most of the time, it boils down to whose fans are the most hardcore or rabid to even vote several times. But as far as I know, Van's AC is currently crushing the ratings. And thank goodness he's out of the Meteor Garden/F4 shadow.

Personally, i feel that Van Ness had done a really, really great job in Autumn's Concerto..
Although Jerry won the poll, i still think that Van Ness is the best.. =)
Furthermore, Van Ness were able to get 2nd place, beating the rest eventhough he just came back to act.. This has proved that he's good.. I'm sure that given more time, Van Ness will be the top one.. =)

Jerry sure did a lot of diverse roles. he did shine the best in best in The Hospital and Starlit.
omg, who wouldn't cry with him in those series. must have broken your heart into pieces seeing him suffer a lot.
he at least gives his fans a break with happy series like Down with Love, so now his fans can ease the heartbreak.
Zai Zai is awesome too in Black & White, he proved he is one hell of an actor.
Vanness on the other hand showed vast improvement in AC. but still for me, he's not yet on the same acting level as Jerry and Zai Zai. if you've seen Jerry & Zai immerse into their diverse roles, you would know what i mean, but if you only saw AC then chances are you'll discredit the other 2 easily.

well, jerry is still the same.. if i'm still the same way back meteor garden, i'll surely vote for jerry yan, but then, i guess vanness is much better than jerry yan, it's just that this is the first time that vanness appeared in a drama, as a lead actor. ulike jerry and vic, ethan, joe cheng and show lou.. plus vanness is much hotter than all of them, not only that he can act (although he still needs to improve), he can sing, dance plus he's sooo hot and he can speak other language (i can more understand him).. as to jerry yan, he's the same old dao ming si.. i think vic zhou, ethan and show luo is actually much better than jerry when it comes to acting.. but of course this is only my opinion, i'm not a taiwanese. but if even those who live overseas, will be able to vote, i guess vanness will win or even show luo! peace guys..

Its just that Jerry has been acting for idol dramas for years. Vanness only returned acting into idol dramas in 2009 (even though he had a cameo role in WTSYA in 2007) because he is focused more in his music career. But Vann did a good job on AC i love his acting there .

First of all, wow congrats to JERRY, VAN NESS and VIC!!! I'm really happy they make it into the top 3!

Although really, I'm hoping that Van Ness can win the poll or even, VIC or Ethan Ruan! Even Xiao Zhu! They are much much much better actor than Jerry! Actually I'm not a big fans of Jerry since the MG era. I don't know what is wrong with Jerry. But for me, his acting skill just average. It's nothing new or exciting from him. Even his songs, after listening once or twice, I can forget easily. Anyway well, I should respect him as a actor. I know jerry is really working hard for this. I think he deserved it! well, I hope Van Ness, Vic, Ethan Ruan, Xiao Zhu or Joe Cheng can make it into top 1 one day!

Hi all,

I am a fan of all three Vanness, Jerry and Vic.... they all have their own qualities,

I watch Vanness coz he is really teriffic in expressing himself and more of my wave length, read his blog and you will understand him better, though many said he is really excellent in AC, i find his facial expression quite repetitive, same outburst of anger and frequent twitching of his eyebrows....... but i really admire him for the hardwork he put in to memorise his line..... all in pin yin that is..... I can't read chinese and i know how tough it is to teach my son (8 yo) Chinese. Vannes does a lot of community work as well..... he supports many of his friends who are also in the industry but might not be as famous as he is........

I love Vic, for his humour and his wit and among the three, seriously, he is the best actor. Watch Mars, WTSYA, B&W, just this three and you will know what i mean. Not much of a singer coz his stage presence isn't as good as Vanness but that's fine by me coz i love to see him act....... and the way he handles interviews and talk show..... a real Gemini, you will never know what to be expected from him......

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry..... you really need to find out more about him to appreciate him..... search for talk shows like Shen Chun Hua with Jerry and Huo Wen Yong, the earlier ones he had with Tao Ta Jie, and i think there is one with Zhang Qing Fang.... hear about how he had to survive with his mum and sis through his teenage years, how they were thrown out of the house, how they had no money to change the fridge and used it till it breakdown(after 20 years), how he was so afraid that a golden opportunity MG has given him might just be gone overnight, how he cried as he related his stories..... you need to peel this piece of onion one by one, then you will know why he had such a huge fan base..... Many say he is an idol actor, singer etc..... They are totally wrong....... I will buy his CDs, watch his movies and dramas coz i know he give back to the community selflessly..... He does not publicise his effort much, the media continue to find faults with him all because he doesn't dance or should I say know how to dance to their tune..... You will never ever fine an entertainer like Jerry who is so straight forward and honest that he doesn't even know how to tell a small whilte lie in a talkshow...... His acting, he has improved leaps and bounds, singing..... he is slowly discovering he does well in rock numbers,,,,

My two sons know very well who Jerry is.... because i always tell them stories of his past.... how even though he is financially well off now he still uses his old car to remind himself of his humble beginning. how much a filial son he is...... granted he may look arrogrant, that's because he has high expectation of himself and strive hard to always do better.....

jerry yan is the best actor??? hmmm. i wold have to disagree. his roles don't really vary very much. it's the same sort of character wrapped up differently. where as vic zhou actually plays a number of different types of characters. i think he is much more versatile as an actor. he should have won the award

well everyone is entitled to their opinions right.
i watched Black & White, The Hospital, Starlit, and AC. from start to finish (well AC isn't don yet) coz i am such an F4 fan. bet you didn't so you wouldn't see how Jerry acted.
and you also didnt see the most dramatic scenes Jerry had delivered. well yeah, what's new, sometimes people judge without even knowing.
Zai Zai's Black & White is dramatic yes, but the most serious and dramatic of them all is The Hospital, so that goes to say how hard it is to film this series, not to mention that Jerry became more natural in acting in Starlit.
Zai Zai is Zai Zai. i gave him props for his acting chops. his role in B & W is just complicated. If I were to vote, it would be a hard choice between Jerry and Zai Zai. and yes, i agree, Vanness is still for now behind Jerry and Zai in acting, though he is good in AC.
