TOKYO: Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura has volunteered to take a pay cut to revise the upcoming film "Space Battleship Yamato" in which he stars.

According to Japanese media reports, Kimura said he was moved to tears after watching James Cameron's "Avatar" and immediately urged "Space Battleship Yamato" director Takashi Yamazaki to watch the film as well.

Kimura also asked Yamazaki if they could "revise the CG [computer graphics] scenes in 'Space Battleship Yamato' using 'Avatar' as a reference".

He added that he was deeply impressed by the high quality 3D scenes in "Avatar" and went on to point out that while "Space Battleship Yamato" was a Japanese film and "Avatar" was an expensive Hollywood production, "the difference [in quality] between them was just too great".

The actor's suggestion has unsettled the production crew working on "Space Battleship Yamato". Some said he had gone overboard in his quest for perfection.

"Space Battleship Yamato", based on a popular animated series of the same name, was already in post-production when Kimura made his suggestion. If the CG scenes are reworked, costs will escalate and Kimura will have to re-shoot these scenes again.

This will force the film, slated for a December release, to go over budget and become delayed.

Kimura said he will adjust his schedule to re-shoot his scenes and will forego a portion of his fees to defray the costs of these revisions.

Nice a close encounter to Avatar movie.

He is becoming more involved in movie making, maybe he can be a director someday?

kimutaku is really a perfectionist. that's what i like about him....such dedication to his craft eh? but wow, so they'll have to re-shoot some scenes if indeed the production staff would accede to his demand?

I'm backing Takuya on this...if it makes the movie better then why not? Not many actors would offer pay cuts to improve a film...

I agree with all the previous comments. This is who he is... a man dedicated to producing the very best. Why do something at all unless it's done right! Good for him. I am glad he was inspired and even more moved by his willingness to re-arrange his schedule and take a pay cut to see that it comes about. BRAVO Takuya Kimura!

This does sound really challenging to the production staff, no? America can make tons of money off a movie if it does well, seeing as they show it all around the world. Whereas, Japan mainly sticks with their own country along with neighboring ones such as Korea, China, etc. But, at least he is trying to help its production by taking a pay cut. What a determined man he is, considering the economic harshness of reality. XDn Haha, and this marks my 1000th post. Yay, me...

He is really dedicated to his work. I mean he is voluntarily getting a pay cut plus now he is going to have to work longer hours. Glad to see it's not always about the profits in the entertainment circle.

Well, I'm sure the audience would rather wait longer for the better CG scenes. I'm not sure where the hate for him is coming from....probably production stuff we don't know about, but I'm with him on this :P
