Ratings Fall Below Expectations for New Ueno Juri Drama
Source: Mingpao
Translated by: sparkles_n15 @ asianfanatics.net

Starring Ueno Juri, Eita and Korean singer Hero, the Fuji TV drama Sunao ni Narenakute had its first episode aired this past Thursday night. Even though there was a kiss scene between the two main leads, as well as a huge sacrifice made by actor Tamayama Tetsuji, who had to passionately kiss his female boss Okuda, the drama failed to attract high ratings, pulling in 11.9%.

Sunao ni Narenakute is lead by producer Nakano Toshiyuki, who previously worked with Ueno and Eita on the drama Last Friends. He expressed that 'Friends' only received 13.9% ratings on its first episode, but ended off with 22%. He is hopeful that 'Sunao' will do the same.

i've already finished watching episode 1 (without subs), and i can only understand some parts. it was an okay drama, but it doesn't give me a "wow..." feeling. maybe it's still early for me to judge this drama, so i'll be waiting for episode 2.

i hope the rating will be higher.

The reviews for the first episode was lukewarm, and I've been reading a lot of criticisms about Jae Joong's acting in the series in Japanese forums and his lacking Japanese speaking skills. So that could have affected the ratings. Not that it's any surprise seeing that he barely has any acting experience.

But it seems audiences in Japan have become increasingly "picky" with their jdoramas in recent years.

Well it's about .. twitter. Even though I like Ueno and Eita (and I guess JJ - but for singing not acting) , but the premesis is not that interesting. I didn't think that show was that successful either which conflicts with this post

That's the magic of PR and propaganda machine. If anything -- take everything in the NEWS section with a grain of salt.

The latter article focused on JJ (Korean with Tohoshinki). The slant is to buoy JJ up, given all the drama of disbanding the boyband Tohoshinki. Avex the marketing arm in Japan is milking every last cent of the boyband before they evaporate totally, and laying the ground work for future individual work. Avex, SM, JE and all other management companies are very capable and willing to employ crass strategy; out and out commercialism with the impending release of basically recycled material (referring to Toho upcoming album release).

This news article (this section) is mainly on Ueno - from a Japanese point of view. So per Kpop expectations - JJ is doing well; per Jpop expectations Ueno falls short.
