The ratings are out for two Korean dramas starring two K-pop idols and it’s not a pretty picture.
Micky Yoochun of TVXQ is starring in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” on KBS TV while Kim Hyun Joong, leader of SS501, headlines “Mischievous Kiss” on MBC TV.
The two idols are competing to win the hearts of viewers but it seems that they have to do more to increase their respective show's audience share.
Yoochun’s drama started airing last Aug. 30 while Hyun Joong’s premiered on Sept. 1.
The maiden telecast of “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” garnered a rating of 6.3 percent while “Mischievous Kiss” got 3.5 percent, quite low ratings considering the hype that these two dramas have generated, especially when the cast was announced.
“Baker King” still dominated the nationwide ratings with 44 percent last Sept. 1 and MBC’s special program “Dawn” topped the ratings on Aug. 30.
Last year, “Boys over Flowers” (where Hyun Joong was one of the lead cast) garnered a maiden episode rating of 14.3 percent to place seventh nationwide in Korea.
Fans are baffled why the two new dramas tanked in the ratings considering that they are led by two very popular K-pop idols.
Despite this, fans are hoping that “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and "Mischievous Kiss" will increase their audience share in the succeeding episodes.
