Jay Chou to direct "Initial D 2", Edison Chen confirmed as cast

Yesterday night (28th of October), when Edison Chen attended a fashion event in Beijing he expressed that he will be starring in Jay Chou's "Initial D 2". This movie will begin filming next year, the director of the last movie Andrew Lau will be the producer. Jay Chou, who was originally the male lead, will upgrade to become the director. Today (29th of October), the reporters called Andrew Lau himself, he confirmed that he was currently exploring this project. Besides Edison Chen and Jay Chou starring, he didn't reveal anyone else.

Andrew Lau told reporters, he and Jay Chou are indeed in the progress of moving this project forward. After the previous movie "Initial D" was released in 2005 there have been rumours about a sequel, but after 5 years there was still nothing. Andrew Lau explained: "We couldn't find a suitable entry point, plus we thought at the time filming racing cars was a bit dangerous. If we start filming next year we will be fully prepared in terms of safety."

Early on in 2005 not long after "Initial D" came out, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak revealed that they planned to start filming the sequel in 2006 at the Alpes, they confirmed Jay Chou was going to continue to play Fujiwara Takumi. At the time it was rumoured that there was a rift between Edison Chen and Alan Mak and that he might be taken out of the sequel. Now 5 years have passed, Jay Chou himself has become a director, Edison Chen has experienced the setback of the "photo scandal".

can't wait for the sequel! but I wonder if Jay can handle being both the director and actor, won't his concentration be split between the two?

I'm not particularly a fan, but I just wanted to point out that Jay Chou directed (and co-wrote) and starred in Secret

i'm pretty excited for this. i loved the the first one!
i fell in love with the way jay drove in the moviee.
now i get to see jay and edison back together

Jay and Edison looked super hot in the first one so I'm definitely excited for the sequel!

The Secret was good, however Initial D was not.

Initial D 2 most likely will bomb as well. Its only a service to the fanboys.

That being said, I will still probably watch this.

Jay nailed Secret.

Initial D 2 has the potential to be better than 1 as Jay can churn out masterpieces, not saying he will, he definitely has the potential

Oh this will be interesting! I liked the first one so Im pretty excited for the sequel. I think Jay can handle being the director as well as being the star since he did pretty good with Secret. Hopefully it'll come out next year or early 2012!

i am fan of initial d manga/anime, fan of jay the singer/songwriter/musician.

not particularly a fan of jay the actor/director and definitely not a fan of edison.

so i am not really looking forward to this.

^Same here. I love Jay Chou's music, but don't like his movies (though I still watch them anyway).
Definitely do not want to see Edison Chen.

But edison's movies are generally pretty bad. He's not a great actor or anything. That, plus this scandal, I'm not sure I would watch the sequel. Wish it was Jay in it again....

Secret? Heard 'bout it but skipped it since it seemed to have a cliche storyline. Will definitely check it out since there're so many members raving about it

I have mix feelings about this sequel. I think the first one was good as it was. I hope the sequel would not destroy what the first have created. I would to see Jay starring in it again but edison?? I wouldn't want to see him ruin this sequel, his image is just hard that great these days. I don't think his acting is great either.

But I thoughted that Jay was planning to film "Secret 2" next yr, now it's Intital D 2? Wow.
So much work and so much stress. Jay is going to be so busy.....
I'm so looking forward to it then. I hope that Initial D 2 gets more better critics than the first.

This is the best news I have heard for years. I waited for a sequel for 5 years. As long as EDC and Jay are in it it will be great. I heard so many rumours and wished it would be true. Now I see this news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be a epic movie. Hopefully it will be even better than the first one. They need to add some new characters in aswell. 5 years is not a long time for a sequel. Storm warriors was 10 years and the technology has changed so much. But the first was made in 05 so you wont see major changes.

The first Initial D was ok was not that good and now there is a part 2 i wonder how that is going to be. I guess just got to wait and find out how the movie will be , when it comes out.
