2011 was the year for Yang Mi. From the most influential drama of the year to the highest grossing horror film in Chinese history all the way to a musical debut, the actress finally reached a top after 20 years in the industry (she’s only 25). To top it all off, Yang Mi admitted today that she was dating actor Hawick Lau. The story has resulted in more than16 million weibo’s after less than two hours.

According to Yang Mi, the two became good friends during the filming of upcoming drama Ruyi. She then introduced him to her company, and he ended his long independent actor status. Hawick Lau recently called Yang Mi in a surprise phone call on Happy Camp, and the two filmed a MV together for Yang Mi’s new album.

In an interview published today to Southern Metro Weekly, Yang Mi said that previously, she always thought she was too busy for a relationship, but found new confidence in Hawick Lau.

“To be honest I’ve thought about dating, but never really wanted to date because I felt like dating is a waste of time. I’m too busy with work and has been afraid I won’t have time to face a relationship, but you can find confidence and security on this person. It’s really hard for me to trust someone, and he can make me trust him,” said Yang Mi. “This circle is very fast-paced and superficial, and many, including me, have gotten bad habits. But when I’m working with him, I’ll reflect on myself. I’ve never met someone who could make me do that. ”

The publishing of the interview was followed by a weibo announcement by Hawick Lau a few minutes ago.

“I can finally loudly say I have a girlfriend! I want to apologize to everyone who’s been caring and worrying about my relationship status. This unveiling took a lot of courage. Little Mi is very insecure, so I hope everyone can support her and protect her. She says that she hopes everyone can look at us like other friends who are dating. If we can receive your blessings we’ll be very thankful,” said Hawick Lau. “A new relationship is little a budding treeling and must be protected. Because of work, it’s seems not so simple at all to have a simple relationship. I just want to say it’s difficult to meet someone who I love, and I really want to treat this relationship seriously and be together. As a man, I will try my hardest and do everything possible to protect everyone near me and this little treeling. @Yang Mi.”

Congratulations to Yang Mi and Hawick Lau! Perfect couple, I must say.

Fengmi fans right now are crying buckets and buckets of blood, and are raging at Yang Mi like mad lunatics because of this. Eventhough Yang Mi had always maintained that she and Feng Shaofeng are just friends, there are still many people out there who still chose to believe their own fantasies rather than the truth which have been slapping them hard on their faces all those times.

Ah yes, how the truth hurts so bad. :)

As a former Fengmi fan, I was badly hurt by this news as well but... couldn't mourn too much because I'm busy shipping other couples :innocent

Why all the fuzz? Just another aging HK guy getting some "young stuff" from the Mainland. I guess he'll be 40 in a couple of years if I recall correctly. :tricky:

That said It has dawned on me that an interesting trend seems to have emerged: Mainland China has become the supply source of young blood for intergenerational relationships with many hot young chicks for the old HK guys and mucho young husbands for aging HK actresses. :D

hey.... harwick lau may be in his late 30's. he's hot. Harwick takes his relationship very serious & sweet. He can act and sing, too! I'm happy for him to finally have a relationship after his huge heartbreak from Bernice Liu. Yang Mi is so cute, and I'm sure this is a big step for her, too, since her acting career is taking off right now. clapclap

I think she has begun to plan her transition out of those cutsey lovers roles anyway.

Her next work to be released soon is a cameo role in the Vic Zhou movie The Perfect Pair in which she plays a single mother. Also, she participated in the annual HK bonanza "All's Well Ends Well" in which she has a "sexy bikini cameo" the the HK press called her a "sex goddess". Don't know whether this is any indication that she will pattern her career after Vianne Zhang, another young Mainland actress who has hooked up with an older HK guy. :tricky:

Uhm... I don't think Yang Mi needs to follow Viann Zhang. The former is pretty much on a much higher level than Ron Ng's gf.

I think the question being posted is whether this "high level" could be sustained now after this revelation.

The poster refers to fanatical "shipping" fans in the mainland on whom her popularity heavily depends. These guys don't give a shot about who this harwick guy is other than another old hk geezer coming to china to "dig gold" and to score with young chicks.

I am really glad that Hawick and Yang Mi found the courage to admit their relationship since many other couples just continue to hide, lie and cheat their fans and the public. I know that many wished and thought that she was with Feng ShaoFeng, however, onscreen and real life are 2 different worlds. You can have great on sceen chemistry but not like each other at all in real life since it is only acting. That is why I always tell fans to not dream too much and hope that onscreen couples will become a real couple in real life because things usually don't work out that way and you will get disappointed. It is true that there are some onscreen turned real life couples,BUT that does not happen often at all. As long as your idols are happy, then as true fans you should support them regardless of who they are with.... It is not up to the fans and public to choose for them anyways...Wish them the best!!!

I don't think you need to worry at all since just because she is dating Hawick does not mean that she and FengShaoFeng cannot remain friends. Of course they can collaborate again because that is for work... Just because she now has a boyfriend does not mean that she is now restricted from being friends with other guys or working with them..

I agree. Be happy for them (Hawick and Yang Mi). Life is too short, just enjoy and be happy. As long as they are happy together, who cares what other people (the fans) think. :thumbsup ....I wish them all the happiness and love in the world. :thumbsup .

I like fengmi couple too but I rather they are not couple in life. I never enjoy a couple or wife/husband in life play lovers on screen, don't know why, may be because I would think they are couple in life then there is no excitement to watch them on screen at all.
Hawick is not an old HK guy, even he is in late 30 but he looks so young for his age, Yang Mi probably will look older than him soon.
