The new short hairdo stirred speculations of an impending military enlistment for the actor

Following Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan's enlistment days ago, fellow actor Ming Dao has now caused a stir after a recent photo of him sporting a crew cut went viral.

Prior to the Lunar New Year, Ming Dao posted a picture of himself with a new short hairdo on his microblog, sparking speculations amongst fans that their idol might be enlisting for the military service soon.

The actor has since deleted the pictures from his microblog.

According to Ming Dao's management, the actor is currently on a vacation in the southern region of Taiwan and is waiting for the school term to start before taking a leave of absence from his college.

"Ming Dao is currently on vacation and is taking the opportunity to spend more time with his family," said his manager.

The management also refuted allegations of an impending enlistment, stating that Ming Dao had merely cut his hair short because his previously curly hair was troublesome.

It was said that if the military enlistment were to happen, Ming Dao will be due to enter the army earliest in mid-February.

I hope mingdao would join the army as soon as possible. He can take that as a break from the entertainment industry and come back again a year or so later.

All the best to mingdao! and take care!

This man has alot on his plate taking care of his ailing mother since her accident during the filming of YY3+1. He takes care of his whole family. If a man did that in the US it would be considered a rare and wonderful thing. I do not think he will avoid it as there has been talk that he already enlisted and will be leaving in early March..maybe this is a rumor. I am from the US where you do not have to do military service unless you want to. No one should be forced into the military in my opinion especially if you have other options open to you and Ming Dao has many options open to him and no one should look down on him. Ethan is doing alternative service as he has flat feet and can not join the miltary. I think he will do police work or fire brigade is what I read somewhere. I would be thrilled if MD just keeps acting. What ever he decides I will still support him.

His mom actually suffered that during the filming of Frog Prince. I heard that his paternal grandfather passed away during that time too and he did not even get a chance to mourn... He mentioned that during one of his personal interviews in 2005 and I felt really bad for him. Well, each country has different policies and different situations so you should not compare each country like hat. I am also from the US and they are of course in a different situation than Taiwan is. There aren't as many people in Taiwan and they worry about China so ALL healthy guys must enter the military. Even Nicky Wu who had a bad arm injury had to go and I think Ming Dao is in good health so he of course has to go... Well of course all of his fans don't want to see him go but at the same time, it is best for him to go and fulfill his duties to his country since he loves Taiwan so much....It's not that people are looking down on him but they just want him to do what is right. In Taiwan, they believe that you are not a true man if you don't enter the military(unless you have bad health or some other good reason not to). Ming Dao also does NOT have the option of completely avoiding it anyways(unless he got a really bad illness or became disabled which I am sure many don't). I think he just wants to take care of his family and earn as much as he can so that his family can have a comfortable life while he is gone.... Many do admire the love and devotion he has for his family but that should not be an excuse for him to avoid the duties that he has towards his country.
