'ATV's Big Sister' Alice Chan switches over to become TVB's FaDan. Yesterday she had a meeting to discuss the contract ('per series') at TVB City and will be officially picking up the pen soon. In April, she will be participating in new series Justice Attack (法網追擊). In 1996, after Alice won first place in the Miss Asia pageant, she joined ATV and had been heavily promoted to become ATV's Big Sister. In 2008, she married Taiwanese businessman (James Yen) and her acting career faded off since then. Alice has now become bored of being a wealthy wife and plus she's craving to act again, so she decided to make a comeback. The 38 year old decides to join TVB.

Alice praises her new company: "I look for the best work team, TVB is the only option. I'll be shooting new series Justice Attack in April, where I will be playing a strong businesswoman." In the past, Alice was ATV's Big Sister, and now that she switches to a new environment, she does not mind rankings. The most important is to gain recognition for her work and the pay is a 'comfortable price'.

Lately, TVB FaDans and Siu Sangs have been leaving TVB one after another and the company also has to make way for their current artists to have opportunities to make the extra Chinese yuan up north. Because of this, there has been a lack of artists. TVB's Production & Resource Director, Virgina Lok, can only go out and start recruiting new artists. Miss Lok reveals they have several new targets, she hopes to convince Stanley Fung to shoot TV series again. She said: "I have been discussing with Alice for nearly a year. Audience have pointed out there should be new and different artist pairings, this is good for the series arrangements and it is not easy to 'strike' artists." Aside from speaking with Stanley, Miss Lok will also make arrangements for Eddie Cheung to have other collaborations.

I thought after Alice quit ATV, she went to work in Mainland for a period of time. Why the article didn't mention this?

I didn't know she got married also. Belated congrats to her.

Many ATV artists who moved from ATV to TVB did not get good treatment from TVB. Ruco and Elena are not the norm. Elena benefited from her shining character in 'Beauty Know No Pain' while Ruco has signed management contract with TVB. Hope she wouldn't face the same problem of bad treatment.

Well considering they spent a year to get her on board, I doubt theyd be too discriminatory. That and the threat of CTI. And also, Ruco was relatively unknown before TVB. Alice was a big sister and has got good acting skills. I'm excited to see her act again. Maybe with Ray Wong seeing as they were in the Anita Mui biopic.

Yes, Alice is a great actress. When she first started out, her acting was very awful. She has improved leaps and bounds through the years in ATV. I like to see her in a TVB series too. More variety.

Well, we'll have to wait and see what kind of treatment does she get from TVB. If she gets treatment similar to that of Ruco, Raymond Wong, Elena and Kristal, she'll be quite okay. Because this bunch of ex ATV actors do land relatively good roles, especially the guys. I think the same cannot be said of many other ex ATVers in recent years. From what we've seen, the acting put out by these ex ATVers is very decent, much better than many of TVBs highly promoted artists, so i like to watch them :)

Her first role may be a guest role

Even if it a supporting role, sure she will play a mother role

But it good she joins TVB, helps the young upcoming actress with acting

Quite a critical time to be entering TVB. I wonder why she didn't wait for the other TV stations to emerge or why she didn't go film up north. Well what ever the reason is, it will be nice to see her on TV again and hopefully TVB will treasure her because she really is a great actress. Then again at a time like this TVB isn't THAT stupid to be treat (new?) employees poorly... right?

Well with Alice abroad, there will be fresh pairings and maybe pair up with Eddie Cheung :P

I'm thinking they'll probably give her good treatment since it's her first time with them but then as time goes by it'll just get ugly just like how many other ATV artists faced. I mean come on, even non-ATV artists face hard problems from TVB and they've always been loyal.

It's true that many former ATV artists who moved to TVB were not treated well but the recent examples have been very heartwarming, Kristal, Elena, Ruco, Raymond Wong have been given a lot of opportunities. (Speaking of which, I think Elena has really been the only one that has spoken negatively about her time with ATV since joining?) So I think Alice Chan should be fine..and they have been talking for a year, so it seems they have been targeting her for a while.

I think it's the best time to enter TVB. They're facing a lot more competition and poaching, so the artists definately benefit. And it will take some time before the new channels can eclipse TVB's years of dominance, so TVB series will still give Alice the biggest exposure. Not to mention, she isn't acting for the money since she's living comfortably monetary wise, this is the best choice.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to watching Alice. I haven't seen many of her ATV works, so I can't wait to see what she brings to TVB and could definately use more new faces. :)

What I think they are trying to say is, why pick TVB in a period of uncertainty? With all these new free channels that are supposed to compete with TVB, why pick a company that has such bad news about its artists' being treated unfairly and such (well, those who are not favored I suppose). While it may take some time (growing up watching TVB series, I hope this won't happen at all...) for the other new channels to match (or eclipse) TVB, why join an organization that is on the fall (in some people's minds)?

Going off of articles from here about City Telecom, it's apparent Ricky is 'bending over backwards' to the artists' from everything regarding pay raise, script quality, and even freedom of work. I don't know if he's also giving them more off time for rest, etc. but it would certainly seem from a non-insider's point of view that City Telecom does have a more attractable package in terms of employment.

Based on the article, I think it's reasonable for Alice to pick TVB. 1) Ms. Lok has been discussing with for nearly a year, so the deal should be attractive for Alice to pick TVB. 2) She needs exposure to the audience, now, TVB has the most viewers. 3) It seems like she's signing per series contract, so she has some freedom.
