Apple has sent out invites for a launch event in early March that is widely expected to involve the next iteration of the iPad tablet computer.
Following considerable rumour and speculation, in an invite received by Digital Spy, Apple confirmed the event at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco at 10am PST (6pm GMT) on Wednesday, March 7.
A UK press event will also take place in London's Kings Cross.
The invite simply says that the world's biggest technology firm has "something you really have to see - and touch".
Apple's timing has raised a few eyebrows, as it comes right in the middle of Mobile World Congress, the industry event at which Apple is always conspicuous by its absence, but also during Google's keynote address at the conference.
The event on March 7 is widely expected to involve the unveiling of the iPad 3, or possibly a high definition version of the iPad 2.
Various reports have suggested that the new tablet will come with an Apple A6 quad-core processor, a much higher resolution screen and potential support for 4G LTE.
