The Killing could return for a third season as part of a deal between AMC and Netflix.
Cable network AMC declined to pick up the crime drama for a third run in July, with a report the following month claiming that Netflix was interested in reviving the series.
The two outlets are now finalising a deal to team up for another season, splitting the costs between them, according to Deadline.
Under the agreement, AMC would air the new episodes first, with Netflix subsequently streaming them online.
Stars Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder) are already contracted for a third season, which could enter production as early as February 2013.
Upon the show's original cancellation, Fox TV Studios announced that it was eager to "try to find another home" for The Killing.
"Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of The Killing, the extraordinary writing staff and crew, and what we believe is one of the best casts on television," the studio said in a statement.
