Hello! Do you watch AMERICAN IDOL? In the Philippines, it's counterpart is STAR CIRCLE QUEST. It's a reality-based talent/artist search wherein the contestants would do some kind of tests and through it, their points would be based. Some tests include singing, acting, dancing and teamwork games/tests in its most daring and challenging way. Eventhough the search hasn't conclude yet, Hero already has emerged among others because of his perfect resemblance with VIC ZHOU who actually drive Filipino fans crazy...

This is Hero's AUDITION MISSION in Star Circle Quest. Since Boy Abunda, one of the judges, noticed that Hero actually resembles Vic Zhou, his friend, also a writer and actually interviewed Vic Zhou in person, Ricky Lee, requested for Boy to make Hero's AUDITION MISSION as to do some VIC ZHOU MTV. When Hero presented his AUDITION MISSION the next time, the judges were very impressed by him because aside from jazzing-up like VIC ZHOU, Hero actually lip-synched the song very well.

Last night at STAR CIRCLE QUEST. The staff of the program interviewed the contestants to the things that they long dreamed doing but haven't got the chance to realize it. Hero wants to check-in in a first-class hotel and experience a happy-go-lucky life there so together with 3 more of the other contestants who also wished for the same thing, SCQ arranged for them a stay in a hotel. For the four it's already a dream come true.

Last Saturday at SCQ: Hero's very transparent last time. He simply just can't hide his nervousness and disappointment the moment Sandara was left with the other two weakest Teen Questors wherein the one who would be out of the challenge will be chosen. Hero just had a relief when Boy Abunda, told Sandara that she's in due to his highly-exceptional texters votes.

In ASAP, a while ago, the 9 left Teen Questors where the guests. Hero admits that he really is nervous for Sandara for the fact that he is closest to the girl among the others in the group.

What I really noticed with Hero everytime I see him with Sandara is that he always had his arms around Sandara. Hmm... could be? That Hero really has a thing for Sandara other than being his best bud... blush blush blush

Hero and the other Teen Questors guested at "Morning Girls" today. The topic is about LOVE TEAMS. When Hero and Sandara was called, the people in the studio goes wild... screams and cheered for Hero... woah...

He's really one heck of a favorite!



When Kris Aquino asked the two of them why they were paired, they said it's because of the Meteor Garden fame, with Sandara as San Cai and Hero as the perfect look-alike of Hua Ze Lei.

One other question to Hero: Something like... how can you prove to Sandara's parents that he is serious with his intentions or he is trustworthy.

He said that he would study and learn Korean.

Another question: How would you court Sandara?

He said that he wants to know Sandara more and deeper than he used to know her. <something like that, I'm not very attentive in watching the show, you know! :lol?: >

Katya is so lucky that Hero and Joross got to kiss her on the lips earlier in Morning Girls. And by golly! Hero can eat a lot of bananas in one minute... haha. :lol?:

Joross Gamboa and Hero Angeles, Sandara's love team, had a showdown in Morning Girls yesterday. One of the showdowns include a game with Katya Santos. One of the challenge is for the two boys to prove who's got the softest lips so there, the guys have to kiss Katya. The girl appeared so daring wants the two guys to kiss her on the lips. Joross won. But when it was reported at TV Patrol, Hero admits that he became very shy to kiss Katya because Sandara is there watching at the set. Sandara's reaction: "Was it your first time?"

One reporter asked too whether what kind of date would Hero ask Sandara to. He said that he'll take her with him in a hot-air balloon and together, they will watch fireworks. (Hmmm... must have a strong influence of Chinovelas, huh?)

For the first time, Hero has become the strongest among the questors. The test is to act using the lyrics of a certain song as the questors' dialogue. Hero's dialogue came from the song, "Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita" sung by Roselle Nava. All of the 3 judges were convinced by his performance.

Sandara shed tears once again during the Magic Circle of 5 Goes to Cebu Press Conference. She was hurting at the expeculations that her family is buying all her votes so she would stay in the competition. But as we all know her, she's witty and good at cracking jokes so she just answer the other questions in form of jokes. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, someday soon, she will get the "Darling of the Press" award. "I won't give up!," Sandara closed.

On the other hand, Hero Angeles gave his love team a piece of advice. That she should prove to everybody that she's worthy being wih the Magic Circle of Five and not to cry every time something like this issues come her way.

And then there was one.

By this time, you should know who’s The Lucky One, chosen last night at the SRO Araneta Coliseum by the same three-man panel of jurors composed of Boy Abunda, Gloria Diaz and director Laurenti Dyogi who must have incurred the ire of thousands of televiewers (especially relatives of "voted out" aspirants) with their no-holds-barred, no-nonsense and often cutting comments on the contestants’ talent (or lack of it).

ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Quest (SCQ) is over. What a relief! To the five lucky finalists in each category (one for grown-ups and the other for kids), it must be. All 10 of them were virtual winners, each already richer by P1 million in cash and contracts (and double that plum for the two winners).

It was fun while it lasted. More than 5,500 showed up for the auditions conducted by a committee composed of producers and directors of ABS-CBN and representatives from the station’s Talent Center. The number was winnowed down to 200 star-struck hopefuls "grilled" on national television by the three ogres (that must have been how Boy and Gloria and Laurenti looked to many people), sometimes helped along by "guest" judges. The public logged in their votes by texting.

From 200, the number was trimmed further to 50, then to 25, then to 15, then to 10, with one contestant unceremoniously (relentlessly?) dropped during the elimination rounds.

And then there were five: Roxanne Ginoo, John Ross "Joross" Gamboa, Sandara Park (a pure Korean), Hero Angeles and Melissa Ricks.

Conversations sat down with the Fab 5 a few days before last night’s grand finals. Here’s how they assessed each other’s chances:

Are you ready for showbiz with all the pressures and intrigues?

Roxanne: I’m ready even if it hurts sometimes. Tinatatagan ko ang loob ko.

Melissa: I’m preparing myself for anything. I know that showbiz is full not only of pressures but also of intrigues. Now that we are in it, we must be ready to face anything.

Sandara: I’m ready but I still can’t stop crying. Among us, I’ve faced the most number of intrigues. Someday, I’ll get used to them.

Hero: I’m also preparing myself. Hindi maiwasan, e! I always remind myself, "Be true to yourself!"

Joross: Ready, willing and able! Huwag lang madadamay ang pamilya ko.

How did you get into Star Circle Quest?

Roxanne: My sister saw Bayani (Agbayani) plug the search on MTB, so she encouraged me to audition. I auditioned at SM Bicutan.

Melissa: My cousins told me, "Mag-artista ka – dahil maarte ka!" So I auditioned for the SCQ after I attended a workshop at ABS-CBN.

Sandara: I always asked my friends to inform me if they’d hear about a contest like SCQ. During the audition, I danced the Otso-Otso and I made the (screening committee) laugh.

Hero: I started in modelling. My friends told me, "You be an actor. Sayang ang opportunity. You’re not getting any younger." I heard about the audition on TV.

Joross: Marami ang nagsasabi sa akin na makapal daw ang mukha ko. I love to entertain, too, and people told me na puede akong artista. At first, I wasn’t really interested in showbiz. But now, I’m learning to love it.

Any acting experience before SCQ?

Roxanne: I had auditioned for teatros. I passed but my parents stopped me from joining the teatro. My first real acting experience was in SCQ.

Melissa: I started as print-ad commercial model. I also did TV commercials (Wendy’s, Bayfresh, etc.), pero second lead lang.

Sandara: None whatsoever. The SCQ audition was my first time to act – that’s why my acting was like that.

Hero: In school, I did a little mime acting. I learned a lot about acting only at SCQ and during our workshops.

Joross: I did one school play but I didn’t really enjoy the experience because my character died in the beginning. But I’m a practical joker. I’m making jokes all the time.

What kind of family did you come from?

Roxanne: A happy family. Religious and conservative.

Melissa: Also a happy family. Our parents raised us very well.

Sandara: Our family is okay but sometimes lonely because we don’t have relatives here. I was born and grew up in Pusan (South Korea).

Hero: Masaya kahit puro problema. Yes, I admit na nag-stowaway ako. I was affected kasi by my parents’ problems. They almost broke up. Noong nag-rebelde ako, natauhan sila.

Joross: A typical family – mga komedyante! Vivo lahat. We’re open to one another. If any of us has a problem, we try to bond and solve it. Pinalaki kaming matitino.

Do you have any grudge against the SCQ judges?

Roxanne: None. It’s their job.

Melissa: Wala rin. I even laughed at some of their punchlines, lalo na ’yung kay Tito Boy. Sometimes, para siyang lasing!

Sandara: Grudge? What does it mean? (You know, hinanakit. – RFL). Ah, grudge! None. When they told me, "Sandara, you’re the weakest!" I got mad for one second and then I forgot all about it. I loved them!

Hero: I enjoyed their comments, pero kinakabahan ako kapag si Tito Boy na ang nagsasalita. He told me that I was "parang iced tea na walang ice." For a while, I didn’t want to drink iced tea. Pero nang binawi ni Tito Boy, I started taking iced tea again.

Joross: Actually, their criticisms helped us improve ourselves. I thank the judges for that.

What’s your most embarrassing moment on the show?

Roxanne: During the audition, they asked us to do drama and then comedy. My comic line was, "Magpapalaki ako ng boobs!" I thought it was embarrassing especially after they began teasing me about it.

Melissa: Not really embarrassing but somewhat scary. While we were recording, I imagined that somebody invisible was at my back. It turned out to be a cockroach na pumasok sa likod ko!

Sandara: I was embarrassed everytime they told me, "Sandara, you’re the weakest!"

Hero: I’d be embarrassed everytime Joross and I committed mistakes during our dance numbers. Dinaan na lang namin sa adlib para ma-cover-up.

Joross: When that happened on ASAP Fanatic, sa sobrang kaba namin, we committed so many mistakes that Hero and I decided to do many adlibs. Hayun, nakalusot!

What’s the best lesson that you learned from the SCQ experience?

Roxanne: Patience. Dapat habaan ang pasensya. Also, tatagan ang sarili sa criticism at intriga.

Melissa: Hard work. When you watch TV, you think that what they’re doing is easy. But once you yourself are doing it, you realize that it’s hard pala. Easy to watch but hard to do.

Sandara: Always try hard and do your best. Don’t give up!

Hero: Learn to trust yourself; always be confident. Don’t forget to call on The Lord. He’s the source of our strength.

Joross: In everything you do, make a career of it. It’s true: You can’t have the best of both worlds. Also, criticisms help make better persons out of us.

What do you think are your chances in the finals – on a scale of 1 to 10?

Roxanne: Eight.

Melissa: Seven and a half.

Sandara: One. I’m just excited about my solo number.

Hero: Eight.

Joross: Eight.

If you were a judge, who do you think should win?

Roxanne: Joross. Magaling sa acting; kaya mag-drama, mag-action, mag-comedy.

Melissa: Joross...Kasi, since the audition nakita ko na makapal na ang mukha niya.

Sandara: Joross. Makapal ang mukha!

Hero: Kung hindi ako, si Roxanne.

Joross: Roxanne. Besides being promising, kumapal na rin ang mukha niya!

Hero, Nash are ABS-CBN's grand 'Star Circle' questors

Hero Angeles and Nash Aguas bagged ABS-CBN Star Circle Quest's grand prize for the teens and kids categories, respectively, after over four months of competition that concluded in a grand production attended by a jampacked crowd at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City late Saturday night.


The two won after garnering the highest points based on combined text and jurors' votes. The jurors included talent manager and TV host Boy Abunda, former Ms. Universe Gloria Diaz and director Laurenti Dyogi.


As grand questors, Hero and Nash each received P2-million and contract from ABS-CBN.


Hero won over Sandara Parks, Roxanne Guinoo, Joross Gamboa and Melissa Ricks. Nash, on the other hand, outsmarted Sharlene San Pedro, CJ Navato, Mikylla Ramirez and Aaron Junatas.


Star Circle Quest is a talent search produced by ABS-CBN. The competition is divided into two categories: children ranging from 5 to 8 years old, and teenagers from 13 to 19.


The competition started last February with more than 5,000 hopefuls, of whom 200 were picked. The number was cut down to 50, then 25 and, in March, to 10.

It's Hero's Day at "Good Morning, Kris" today!

Kris opened the conversation by asking Hero about the feeling when only him and Sandara were left at the stage battling for the Grand Questor title. Kris also mentioned that it was very clear in the video that Hero initiates on holding Sandara's hand... Hero said that he just feel that he needs someone to "embrace to" or rather "to held a hand to" at that moment wherein he was really very nervous and as if everything inside him is ready to burst.

Hero admits that his hand was colder than Sandy's whose very well maintaining her composure.

Meanwhile, Kris praised Sandy for her genuine reaction when Hero was hailed as the Grand Teen Questor. She also said that she noticed Sandy's really very happy for Hero as if she wasn't really expecting to win over him.

'Star Circle Teen Quest'

OUR fledgling career as a soothsayer suffered a reversal last Saturday during the "Star Circle Quest" finals telecast over Channel 2 from the Araneta Coliseum. We got the kid category winner (Nash) right, but in the Teen competition, the winner was our second-best bet, Hero Angeles, over our choice as champion, Roxanne Guinoo.

Not bad, but not good, either.

We thought that, after correctly picking Fantasia Barrino to top the 2004 "American Idol" crown, we were on a winning streak. Well, eating a little humble pie could do a puffed-up person some good . . .

Nothing to worry about

In any case, Roxanne has nothing to worry about. She may not have won the P2 million top prize (in cash and ABS-CBN contracts), but she's clearly stardom-bound.

Last Saturday, the judges were effusive in praising her "leading lady" potential, so a TV soap and perhaps a movie could be in her sights. Roxanne may not be a gifted singer and dancer, but when it comes to dramatic or romantic-comedy acting, she's more than proficient.

As for top winner Hero, his victory was particularly impressive because he had to work so hard to clinch it-and because everyone knows that he needs it more than the other "final-finalists."

Cockiness

When he first joined the tilt, Hero alternated between awkwardness and cockiness. In time, however, he was able to understand what acting was really all about, and his performances became more focused and empathetic.

His appeal is still of the teenybopper sort, but he's cut down on his irritating porma, and that's all to the good.

As for his "need," network publicity has made sure that we all know that his family is so poor that it's had its electricity cut off. -And that, on one particularly deprived Christmas Eve, their noche buena repast consisted mainly of-champurado. Sob!

Well, Hero's family can look forward to better times from here on in, and the P2 million he's just won will sure come in handy.

Hero's runner-up, Sandara, is also his "love team" partner, so we can expect ABS-CBN to make a big deal out of the fact that they won the top two slots. So, their love team can be expected to become the "champion" love tandem of them all.

Asian good looks

And, as judge Lauren Dyogi sagely pointed out, with Hero and Sandara's Asian good looks, they could become popular even outside the Philippines. With them playing lead roles, their soaps could be exported to other countries in Asia, in a dramatic reversal of the current "invasion" of our TV screens by soaps from Korea and Taiwan.

On point of production, the two Quest finals were much too long, and their numbers consisted mainly of dance numbers done not very well, which quickly got to be a drag.

Well, let's hope that the winners and their runners-up will be showcased more creatively when they actually launch their show biz careers on ABS-CBN-soonest!
